Lily Rose Tank No. 2

Yes Waterdrop, I have been leaving the lights on... I've turned them off now. I took stones and affected ornaments (not gravel) out of tank and washed them with aquarium water with a toothbrush to get rid of algae...then poured boiling water from a kettle over the stones in a jug...let them cool and put them back in the tank. they look better now.

todays results are
Ammonia 0.50ppm....not quite 0
Nitrites 0.50ppm
Nitrates 40ppm

Should I carry on dosing with 4ppm of Ammonia? or go backto 2ppm til they drop to 0?

Good evening everyone. As waterdrop advised I performed a water change, down to the gravel. and refilled with pre-chlorinated tap water, added 4ppm of ammonia and 3tsp of bicarb at about 5pm. Left it settle and tested the water at 7 and 9pm.
7pm...results
ammonia 4ppm
nitrites 5+
nitrates 40

9pm results
Ammonia 2ppm
nitrites 2 ( pink...never seen pink)
nitrates 80

so ammonia and nitrite are processing well and nitrates are well rising this evening
so we'll see tomorrow

Good morning. this morning results ( 16 hours after dosing)
ammonia 0
nitritea 2
nitrates 80
pH 8.2
temp 28

Seems good that we're seeing things happen in this tank. It occurred to me that if the first line of these reportings had xL(volume) Tank then we'd get used to which of your two tanks we're discussing at the moment (its probably just me, I live a crazy life with hundreds of things going here at the university and 10 or 20 beginner tank cases going on here so my mind is about as messy as my offices, lol) WD

waterdrop, in what context?

Last nights results
ammonia 0 redosed with half dose as nitrites not dropping 2mls=2ppm
nitrite 2
Nitrate 80

This mornings results are

nitrites 5 spike?
nitrates 80-160ppm

Your fishless process continues to show signs of activity. Good! My research is about epidemics and disease processes. What field are you guys in?

~~waterdrop~~

Waterdrop I have a degree in genetics, although I have not had much luck finding employment, and with Lily now chances areslim
Anyway, interesting job you have.

I found out today that that big cream stone is calceriferous stone, or something, aparently its no good for tropical, as it alters pH...my pH has been fine should i be worried?
Yes this tank is behaving,thankfully
