Guess What I Got Today

Stage 2 - out of it's box and on box in place :D

The most important stage, some might say :D

it had just better be strong enough!

My Dad is insisting on putting a thick board with some polystyrene under it to help support the weight. I think he said he'd calculated it would weigh around 16-17 stone ... eek

Goodjob, I heard boxes are tricky!

Your an idiot. If you can't say something sensible go away and bother someone else.

Sounds about right, 1 litre is about a kilo. The extra support is a good idea so as to prevent too much pressure building up on the seals.

Good job on mastering the box! (kidding) I cannot wait to see what it looks like when your have it setup!! Plenty of pics!

the base of it is a metal frame, with a supporting beam across the centre then the glass on top. They've definitely thought about the pressure of the weight on glass.

oooh I'm getting a bit more excited now. I can't wait to get some gravel in and wotnot. I just hope I can afford it this week otherwise I'm gonna be sat looking at an empty tank until next pay on the 17th :/

There will be pics at every stage hopefully. That way if anyone has any advice along the way then I can have a re-think before it's too late.

The adult fish are okay for now and the fry are still too small to join them just yet so I have time :)

ooh just had a thought. Will this new tank need a wash out before I add anything or is it just good to go seen as it's brand new?

thanks I shall do that later :)

okay, I've seen this ^ today. It's the same colour and texture as what I have now but it's smaller/finer than what I have now. It's not as fine as sand though. What I have now looks more like this -

only black of course.

I know it was suggested that mixing stones and sand wouldn't work but how about this?

I ask because I still have that 10% off voucher. It's the same price as the other stuff for the same sized bag but I'd have to travel about 10-15 mile to get it - and then stuggle to the car as that place doesn't have a car park on it's doorstep.

Thoughts/opinions anyone?

I use that black aquarium gravel in smaller tanks. It's very smooth and quite small. You could easily mix it with the gravel you have now.

that's great, thanks soybean. My cory's should love it :)
