Ghost Fish Help And What Fish In The Future Should I Get

Also wondering in the future can I add more gouramis angle fish also what other fish would be good with those fish Ty

Hi,

I agree regarding the black ghost knife fish, they require an absolute minimum of 400L and also arent a beginners fish as they are very sensitive and not the easiest fish to look after.

Also I dont think anybody else has picked up on it but the tank isnt big enough for angel fish as they can grow to 12" top to bottom and require tanks with a minimum height of 18" from top of gravel to water line.

I think you've been given bad advise by your fish store and as a beginner havent realised the sizes of the fish you have.

Keeping a fish in a tank that is too small will stunt its growth BUT it stunts its body growth but the fish's internal organs carry on growing meaning you will end up with deformed fish that is cruel and will inevitably have a much shortened life.

Would just like to back up everything said above. 17 US gal is around 64l, 17 UK gal is around 77l.
I don't know which one your tank is, but either ways it is only suitable for the gourami long term, but then that depends on the type of gourami you have.
If your gourami is a:
Dwarf Gourami (Females are gold)
Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami (just a different colour variation)
Honey Gourami
Flame/ Red Robin Gourami (Different colour version of the honey gourami)
OR Sparkling/Dwarf Croaking/Jewel Gouramis
Then they will be fine in that tank, but not with the angel or the BGK

Basically if your gourami is none of the above then post a pic or something and see if someone can ID it for you. As I'm pretty sure it wont be suitable for that tank long term.
I'd suggest re-homing the BGK now rather than planning to upgrade. That way it's fairer on the fish as it's no longer going to be in a fish in cycle situation, it'll have more room generally and if you do upgrade in the future to a 400l+ tank then you can always get a new BGK.
I'd also suggest re-homing the angel, it will eventually outgrow the tank anyway so same principal as the BGK. It's fairer on the fish and if you did ever upgrade then you can always get a new one.

Keep up the water changes and good luck. It's hard work but worth it!

Aww and I though u need to keep angle in groups hmm how much is 400l+ tAnk in aus hmm and do they sell ammonia for fishless cycle here

I found a Juwel Vision 450 (450l) for AU$1,457.50, which in the UK you buy for around £495
If you do a straight convertion from AUD to GBP then it works out at £705 so I don't know if the site I found is just expensive or if tanks generally are more expensive over there.

Either ways I'd recommend trying to get one second hand. Have a look and find out what is a good price in your area.

some people complained to me when i had a bgk in my 55gallon but when its that small a tank you should do a lot of research on the minimum tank size m8; im sorry to tell u this but your bgk will if not already, die a long very painful death :( its so cruel to put a bgk in a tank that small if you knew much about them you wouldn't have got one

Sad I bought him n the angle at the same place as u got the tank and she didn't tell me that the fishes will get that big I'm got start saving for the big tank btw what is the size if a 400+ L tank

Sorry to be the one to mention this, cant see anywhere where it has been before, but unfortunately you are going to need to re-home the ghost straight away, they require a minimum of a 5ft 100gallon tank, as they can reach 14+" and keeping one in a 17g tank is cruel, although you probably didnt know that, the place you bought it from would have.

In the meantime, keep up with as many w/c as it takes to stabilise the tank.
if i get a 100g tank to put my black ghost in would i have room for aother fishes? like would it fit like 4-6 angles and 6 crown loaches?

Hiya ummm we have 1 of them ours always stays in a tube aswel thats where they always like to be
so you have no worries there.

You would probably be ok with your black ghost, 4 angels and 4 clown loach as long as you have good filtration

Andy
