Fluval G6

So im finally ready to order the new tank from NDA 72x24x24. For filtration I was going to go with two FX5's but I have been reading up about the Fluval G series and they sound pretty impressive. Anyone running a Fluval G6? If so what are they like? Apparently they filter 600lph would a single filter be enough for a 72x24x24? Thanks

They do indeed look pretty spanking, first filter ive seen with a digital screen on the front!

Not bought one yet, but can tell you that 600lph isnt really enough to filter a 6 foot tank. Thats 150 gallons, or 680 litres.

Most people aim for the ideal 5-10x tank volume for turnover. I run a 1400lph on a 340ltr, giving me a turnover of 4.1x, which is borderline. The G6 would turn your tank over at a rate of 0.88 per hour.

Not enough unless you want to run 3 im afraid.

In all, i think its an overpriced filter for the performance. The majority of your money is going on the screen on the front.

Look for a suitable Eheim of TetraTEC unit.

it's only rated at 600lph? The Fluval U3 internal is rated the same!

still not powerful enough for the money IMO though....unless it plays Blu Rays as well

Haha yeah you can probz surf the net on it. Read some pretty bad reviews about it anyway. Would be a dumb investment

Agreed, way too much money for what it does. You could buy 3 decent second hand externals for the G6's retail, the benefits of which are threefold;

You'll be over filtering, which is never bad,
You'll have spent less money,
You'll have 2 backups if one fails.

my friend has one of these i think, running next to an FX5. im not sure how big his tank is, but its about 5-6ft long, about 4ft tall, 1-2 feet wide bowfront, and the 2 filters keep the water in pristine condition. he works away for 2-3 months at a time, so needs his water and filters to be in top condition while hes not there, and they do the job perfectly. his tank has LOTS of fish in it. im not sure what the readout is for. i know he can set the flow rate, and i think maybe it tells him when it needs cleaning, i dont know ive only really looked at it once. it was however the easiest cannister filter to clean ive ever seen. i think it has 3 cartridge inserts or something, that just pull out and click back in, doing one at a time. they are expensive though. also a lot quieter than the fx5 was, and smaller.

whether they're worth it or not i dont know, i dont know what they cost. but he has loadsa money so it wasnt really a concern for him, he just likes expensive things.

Lol. 2 fx5's or a g6? Isn't the fx5 about 2300lph? Not much difference.

Fly like a g6 it is not.
