Fishless Cycling Log

Day 28 (12 hours after addition of Ammonia)

NH3 2
NO2 0
NO3 5
pH 7.2 (added 1 tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate)

Seems its your A-Bacs that don't want to quite get there...

i know its so frustrating, maybe its my filter that is the problem, its an external canister filter, I have it loaded with about 40% bio balls, 40% coarse filter (simlar to Juwel blue pads in texture) and 20% white filter.

Or maybe its just sleepy bacteria lol

Day 30 (12 hours after addition of Ammonia)

NH3 1
NO2 0
NO3 5

Day 31 (24 hours after addition of Ammonia)

NH3 0
NO2 0
NO3 5

Well degsod, you look at the trend of numbers in this fishless cycle and anyone would have to get suspicious of the interpretation of the 1 for ammonia at 12hours. Almost seems like it could go either way. Its true that 30 days would be a pretty quick fishless cycle, so maybe its correct that the A-Bac population is still trying to grow that last bit to get big enough. On the other hand just wanted to kind of take a check and make sure you were not just dreaming a little green in that ammonia test result when you are already cycled, lol.

Unfortuantely is definately green, I always get excited when I put the drops in and it stays yellow for the first minute, then it starts to go green and ends up at 1, I had some one else do yesterdays 12 hour test and they got 1 as well :-(

Did you see my earlier post about my filter and the way I hve packed it?

Yes, I saw that. We don't want you to make any changes to your media now while this far into a fishless. I've always liked ceramics better than bioballs but I don't have much basis for that.

Anyway, that's what I wanted to hear, that the green is definate and in that case its no big deal, just requires patience, as your A-Bacs are just taking there time but will "get there."
