Fish Auctions - Who Has Been To One?

Hi just got back from a fish auction in Castleford and it was really really good! So much cheap equipment for sale it was just insane, filters for £2-£3, air pumps for 50p and - lots of quite nice community fish and one or two fish that I really quite wanted but just didnt go for in the end.

I saw my first Zebra Plec tonight and was so so so close to getting him for a bargain price of £60 but I wimped out lol - other fish I saw and wanted were - Nannacara Anomala - King Tiger Plec (for £6!!) - Laetacara Curviceps x 8 - Countless Hoplos and some Platinum Angelfish.

All I came away with was 200g of Tetra Prima for £3.80!!

But yeah I would totally recommend them to any one! Real bargains and your just filled in a room full of people that love fish as much as you do. I was one of very few there that dont have a fish house People were buying fish by the dozen...

I cant wait to go to an other one the dry goods and plants are really cheap and its interesting to see what other people are getting and its a good chance to see whats being bought and sold as well

I goto many auctions through the year.

I live specialist livebearers auctions which are in Nottingham and Corby
Redditch has a any fish auction twice a year and i also goto a couple of general fish and dry goods auctions in Basingstoke area.

Do you have any info regarding anymore auctions in the castleford area? I live in rothwell which is only about 10 mins away so would love to go have a look next time one is held.

If you want to find a local auction, your best bet is to start by going to the fish club web sites and looking around on those sites. We have links to both US and UK clubs posted here to help you find them. I attend several auctions each year including the ones where I run into Kribensis12. I almost always volunteer to act as a "runner" delivering the fish to the successful buyers. While I am waiting to deliver the next bag of fish, I am standing right where I can get a great close up view of the next few fish that will be auctioned. I rarely come home without nice fish that fit right into my tank arrangements and almost always find some real bargains. Hardware is the same way. I came home from an auction this July with a 20 gallon tank that cost me $3. I had bought a hood for that size at an earlier auction so it is now set up and awaiting the arrival of some fish that I bought on line just a few days ago.
