Finally Got My Spawning Tank Ready

you have to go by how the female is acting during the spawn, if she is beat up and swimming for her life, take her out. if she is beat up but still headdown and under the nest she is still game.

I think bronze said she got a little beat up hence the marks (which i assume show up more on a plat) but she's fine

All these fry are doing really well. Took a couple of pics yesterday and you can see how many are just in that one part of the tank. I think I counted about 40 in the first pic.. Looks like we have approx 80 or so at the moment :hyper:

Cheers guys :good:

Those marks you see on the female after spawning are bruising. That is why we get so annoyed when people dont take the conditioning of their fish seriously. If this female hadn't been conditioned well in advanced she may well have come down with a stress related illness afterwards, or worse.

Hopefully, by showing people pictures like this, it will reinforce how important conditioning is :good:

2 and a half weeks old now with lots of big fat bellys. I've taken two out and jarred them already to see what difference there is in growth rate between them and the ones in the tank over the next few weeks. Will be interesting to see what the results are.

wow they look great!

How many spawns do you think you have had in total now?

Thanks Tilly......it's so funny watching cos there are just so many of them. We've only lost about 3 or 4 so far, so looks like approx 80 still going strong.

Thanks Jdubz........I think this one is about our 10th spawn and yet the excitement for it never wears off. I still spend ages with my nose pressed against the tank

do you try different styles of tails/colours or keep to a certain selection?

We have bred different tails and colours. These are F2's from a Red dragon FT spawn. The others that Netty is trying at the mo are Rosetail lines.

The hardest bit is getting the right pair that compliment eachother.

The fry are now roughly 4 weeks old :good: Have seperated half a dozen off that appeared to be growing quicker. Here's some updated pics from tonight.

Although it doesn't show up in the piccies, they have some colour coming through on their fins. The one pictured appears to have red showing.
