hi ive posted this in the hardware section as well but thought this wouldn't hurt ive got a rio 240 and im getting an extra filter an external one i was wondering what would be the best for price and quality the tank has plecs, JD convict and jewel with dithers i will also be keeping the internal juwel filter too cheers . also is so you seen any good deals cheers

ye think ill get one do they all come with spray bars and are the bars worth having or ... and is the filter easy to setup as don't you have to prime it yourself?

The AquaEl UInimax 500 is a great filter, I currently have one running on my juwel 260 bowfront tank.

I have had this up and running for 4 months now and the filter has been fantastic, quite as a mouse and easily maintained. There are several size options available.

Here is the speck, price etc. You can get a UV light or a heater that fits inside also if desired.

some of the more modern eheims like 2026 or 2028 (and probably quite a few others) have things like self primer etc. (some even have heaters too), but they cost a fair bit more. I found the classics to be the best value and its not like priming them is difficult anyway. But if u were after a more modern filter something like the already mentioned 2026/8 would be a good start.

Other filters that get mentioned a lot are the tetratec 1200 and the fluval fx5, if im not mistaken, (fx5 is probably for much larger tanks so u could just get a model down or something)

all eheims come with a spraybar afaik

hey cheers for giving more information which has made me re think getting the ehiem classic 2217 but at the same time which do you guys thinks is best out of the fx5 , tetratec 1200 and the eheim 2217 ?

im going to go with the tetratec ex1200 as the ehiem looks harder to clean and maintain and the price is the same for both
