Filter Sponges

just wondering if anyone out there can give me some advice , i have a fluval 205 external filter and wondered what the polishing pads are for that you can buy and where in the filter they would go , and is it better just to stick with the sponges that a supplied with the filter (obviously clean the out every now and again ) cheers Ian

In my 205 I have them placed in the top media basket which acts as a final barrier to stop any fine particals getting released back into the aquarium. It is also good media for housing wanted bacteria.

Yep you add them as the last layer. Also You can use Cushions padding, Just as Good a Job and Far Cheaper.

my lfs were selling the white flossy 'sponge' (i assume this is what were talking about?) in bits big enough for pond filter. it cost me 2 quid for a piece about a half meter squared, and its about 6 inches think. it pulls apart quite nicely into pieces thin enough for a fish tank.

filter floss would be OK for doing the job
if not you could always by some filter mat
and cut some out yourself i used to do it all
the time it saves a fortune when i used to buy
filter floss you used to get a huge bag for about
£3.00 i was shock to see the price of it now

The polishing pads are just very fine wool or floss that traps the very tiny bits of waste in your tank. It is used to litraly polish the water so it is sparkly & crystal clear.

Depends on the seller, and how they label the item on the customs ticket. I buy from HK alot and only had a few probs in the past.
