spawning no. 3 for the checkerboard pigeon/red turq pair. not sure that these are fertile either. the ( im assuming) male went through the motions passing over the eggs each time after the female laid , but not to put too fine a point on it i didnt actually see any sperm ( would i be able to anyway?) the eggs are on the front glass , its quite tricky to jusdge for sure their colour. these eggs are about an hour or 2 old.

You get some cracking pictures. Decent camera?

thanks . yeah i borrowed a dslr with macro lens from my dad when i went to see him a couple of weeks ago . only trouble is i will have to give it back soon

Great pics, these two seem pretty keen lol

barry white !!! would be good if these ones were fertile , but maybe too early to tell for sure. the 1st lot looked fertile but the next day had all turned white. they are certainly behaving right tho wuth the female guarding and fanning the eggs and the ( hopefully) male chasing anything away that gets too close.

no mate . you mean that extreme fishing thing? i always forget its on .

loving it mate cheers. they are much more interesting than i was expecting , becoming very tame too. and i am finding the much easier to care for than they are made out to be......... only trouble is now i want more ! :hey:

Very cool they look great hope you get some fry. What fun I'm excited to see how it goes.

thankss snowflake. i guess if they keep trying they have to get it right sooner or later. would make a good learning experience as i have decided that id like to eventually end up properly set up to breed discus seriously so i can raise up the fry and start selling discus. but thats a way off in the future yet .

Seems like you have a frisky pair there, Mark

Just a question about breeding them, well breeding fish in general. When you start out breeding fish do you get them from different sources to make sure they aren't inbred, or do you get 6 or so from the same parents and wait for them to pair off, i.e. brother and sister? May be a stupid question, and I'd certainly use two or three different sources if I were going to do it, but for example on Wildwoods where you can buy several for a discount surely they are all from the same batch? Or am I being silly?

Oh, have you been to Maidenhead Aquatics in Cambridge? Got some beautiful Discus there. They keep all their tropicals in RO water, so my little Red Spot had to be acclimatised for even longer going into my hard water.

Fantasic pics, hope they make it this time.
