i boiled mine in a saucepan for 20 mins before i chucked in my tank. seemed to do the job.

Well i finally got some java moss to attach to my shell i drilled some holes and spent the next hour placing moss on and tying it down using invisable thread

I have only covered the front/top half with moss,heres some pics. Do you think it blends in ok?

having read a couple of aquascaping threads and having questions myself, I found this topic to be fantastic for anyone wanting coconut caves So I'm commenting mainly to bump it

I'll go to the supermarket later this week and buy a couple of coconuts to play with. I intend to boil mine as I don't want a tanin filled tank (aesthetics more than worries about the fish) and I'm hoping to get some java moss (even though I'd prefer xmas moss) at the weekend That's my weekend planned out

Ive taken all the moss i had in my tank out, i've really gone off the stuff

Why Tizer? overgrows too quick or just bored of it? I need some because of the shrimp I want to get.

I have a few coconut caves in my aquarium - now and then I take them out and give them a gentle scrub with a clean toothbrush (obviously one just for fishy maintenance) as it's surprising how much brown stuff still comes off even after a year of being in there!

They do look nice though, and my convicts use them for nesting in.
