Breeding Tanks

Hi All,

I am thinking of setting up a small breeding program in my garage.
What is the ideal tank size to have? I am thinking of Angels and maybe smaller fish.

Also, where in the UK is the best place to get a number of cheap tanks?
I am DIY challanged, so cannot make them myself. But would a glass company do it for me at a reasonable cost?

Any advice welcome.

I found the best place is www.gumtree.com or www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk for cheap second hand tanks. Have you got facebook? If so check any selling pages local to your area, i have found a few tanks are now starting to be advertised on them. I successfully managed to get a breeding pair of angels to spawn in a fluval roma 125.

Angels will need a tall tank with plenty of vertical surfaces such as pipes or slate. If you chose something else like Kribs, Rams, Convicts, Firemouths etc then you would surfice with a shallower tank.

The place where I find the best deals on used tanks is at my club's auctions. Almost any fish keeper with more than a few years in the hobby ends up with some surplus tanks. Because so many of us have surplus tanks, we seldom bid on the smaller tanks that are offered and the resulting prices are very good. You can often find a 10 gallon, 37 litres, tank for almost nothing. If you go to a local club auction where someone has several tanks to sell, you could quickly acquire 3 or 4 of those 10 gallon tanks at around $2 or $3 each. I have 3 of them dry in my fish room right now because I simply could not pass up the prices that they cost me. We have links to local clubs here.

I do not know if there are any clubs local to me. And I have had a look on the Net and can't find much. But have posted an enquiry, so hopefully something will come up.
