Bad Betta

Err no. Don't try and make it sound like you weren't told well before you bought anything.

You were told CLEARLY that the best course of action was to remove the UNSUITABLE fish from the 30l tank. And move the betta back into it.

There was no need for a new tank to be bought.
The bristlenose need an 80l tank...almost 3x the size of what it is currently in.

When you were determined you were keeping the bristlenose in the unsuitable tank I specifically went and found you some cheap, plastic, suitable alternatives for the betta to live in.

You ignored ALL advice. And got what frankly was the worst possible (most overpriced) tank you could find.

And no I'm not replying anymore. I've said more than enough to try to help and am officially giving up.

I'm sure you'll be happy to hear this.

Finally!!!

Clearseals are one of the cheapest ways to go and far less picey than a bi-orb, mine came to less than the 15 goes for anyway and Brom is a happy healing boy in it.

At they very least buy the largest critter keeper you can find (easily 21litres) cut out some of the lid at the back and feed wires through, i did that on Djins temp tank and it works great, and soooooooo much cheaper than a bi-orb lol.

I seriousely advise you give the plec to someone who can properly house it, it's the responsible and right thing to do.

And Lotte don't disregard curiosity that way attitude won't get you far she is very knowlageable about fish and a valued member, just be careful is all i'm saying.

15 litres is 3.9 us gallons that is plenty enougth to keep a betta in if it is the only fish in there i can see lots of people are saying bi-orbs are bad and that this is a fact without providing any evidence of this saying things dont make them facts you need to provide evidence of how bad they are. You do need to rehome your BN as should be in a 15 gal minimum.

i have evidence, they constantly break down, and the filters hold very little media for bacteria growth plus calculate the actual swimming space the fish has.

It's not about volume, it's about swimming room.

It is 2ftx1ftx1ft a basic rectangular tank - no hood though.

They are filtered by UGF so they wont have the filter media the same as a internal or external aquarium filter the bacteria will grows inder the substrate. Saying that there's no swimming space is wrong there is a small difference a rectangle shape will only have slightly more swimming space.

I honestly did look into them.... I was gonna get a 13 litre or so one!!

I did look at the Critter ones, but I thought they were plastic and a heater couldn't go in it.

As for Curiosity I do value his/her opinion, but it feels like I can't do right for doing wrong!!

As for my catfish... I can't get my head around why the fish shop would say she is ok and tell me to keep her especially as they take my other fish back etc etc!!

If I have an attidute I apologise, but I am where I am... I have no room (I live in a 0 bed studio) for a 21litre tank and no money to buy loads of bits and bobs. I have grown very attached to my Betta thats why I have found some spare money and bought what I thought would be a really fab tank. I even had to flirt big time to get it cheaper lol.

It would only be Rufus in there... don't want him attacking anyone else.

It looks like I have made the worst choice ever!! :(

It makes a great deal of difference as the fish is not forced to swim in constant circles which is an un-natural act a 12litre rectangular tank would have more swimming room that a 15litre Bi-orb and more surface area for oxygenation in the water, there would also be more room to provide hiding places to ensure the fish feels safe and has a privet retreat from bright lights or stress of anykind.

However i shall not argue the point further as this thread is not about how terrible bi-orbs are, it is about trying to help the OP provide a caring and suitable enviroment for her fish, which she is trying to do.

Post a pic of the plec than we can tell you with absolute certainty what it is.

Are the filters really bad??

It does look as deep as my 30litre and not that much shorter height wise!!

Will do :)

Do u mind if u take him that he has a bite in his fin??

I've decided I may cry  :(

I don't mind at all. Please don't cry, you've had bad LFS advice and maybe been a bit gullible but it's nothing you can't put right! We are here to help and you do sound like you want to do what is right for your fish.

If you have a tiny room then measure up the space your 30l is in and any other spaces that look likely and then maybe nosey on ebay - 50-60l tanks sell pretty cheaply.

Always be on the look out for cheap tanks, they may even sneak up on you.

Don't cry it's a problem that with some logical thinking and a little help can easily be solved. :good:

Thanks guys

It's just I am stuck Baby Biorb, a plant and a heater :(
