Air Stone

What would you say is the best location for an airstone? Maybe in front of the powerfilter so that the bubbles have a chance to travel through most of the water? Is it best to place it next to the glass or in the middle of the gravel?
How do fish react to the bubbles? Do they like them, avoid them? The more I learn about this aquarium/ fishkeeping business, the more I start to think about things like this! Maybe I am thinking too much.

Some fish will take advantage of the circulation provided by an air stone and will play in the flow. I don't know of a "best" place for an air stone. If your objective is lots of water movement, the best spot would be somewhere near the bottom of the tank so that the maximum amount of water would be moved by the bubbles. I only have bubbles in maybe 1/3 of all of my tanks because I am well aware that the bubbles are mainly just decoration or a playground for some of the more active fish.

however from my limited experience. placing the stone at the back (on the bottom) helps draw, loose, waste and detritus towards the back. this helps with cleaning up. lol, and it keeps the surface of sand, quite, clean.

I've just got a hydor airio and it seems to be spitting out dust or something. I don't know if anyone saw my other post about it but it appears it's that that's causing the tiny white flecks. I really can't think why it would be though

Interesting Dino, I've noticed the gravel behind my powerhead (I have one of those independent ones that can be placed anywhere on the glass with an outside magnet to hold it) gets dirtier than other areas. I occurs to me that perhaps it really would be good to place this somewhat near the filter intake so that perhaps some of this dirt would be picked up! (I'm sure it just creating such a strong overall tank flow that come of the movement is of water with debris that actually within the substrate.) WD

agreed. but, in my tank, most of, it is wood fibre. from pleco poo, along with lumps of bogwood. the pleco actually shaped my bogwood, into a hide. and continues to make alterations.
its an interesting idea though. thing is, we cant do justice to all of them. I'm up to my neck in cannister mechanics, and it relation to bacteria health, as you know. maybe next year? lol
