50 Apistos In A 10g

This is a practical discussion on fishkeeping
Mine says "theoretical discussion" in the title description.

how long are they in these types of enviroments in the wild?
This needs answering.

With regards to your first post, you're being pernickity so I'm going to ignore that.

With regards to the second, I'm still trying to find out myself. I have heard someone say that the study was done during the dry season when the water levels are very low, thus it may be survival only.

The thing that interests me is whether the basic principe (i.e overstocking apisto's successfully) can work. I personally wouldn't keep 50 ember tetra's in a 10g let alone apistos, but a statement like that does draw people into the thread.

Whats peoples thoughts on whether overstocking to share aggression (as has been done with other cichlids) could work with apisto's?

And again I'd like to clarify something: if I can't get hold of someone whose tried it, I won't be trying it myself. If I can find someone who has done it successfully then I'd certainly consider doing it myself.

Just thought I'd post a quick update:

I've done a bit more digging, and whilst its a workable idea apparently it is difficult to make it work, and needs a high level of planting to keep to assist with water quality. I've seen a pic of a steindachneri tank stocked this way, and one of the consequences of the heavy planting is that you don't get to see most of the fish (which kind of defeats the object.) That, combined with the fact that I've never tried to run a heavily planted tank puts me off.

I've decided to abandon the idea as not workable (by me at least.)

It might be something that I will be interested in as most of my plants are heavily planted. But only when I can get a sump

Check out apistogramma.com then, you should get some advice from the same people that gave me mine.
