Worst Moments In Fishkeeping.

about a year ago my parents came home to find water dripping through living room ceiling.

after 4 hours of taking floor boards up and turning water off at mains they discovered my tank had cracked along the bottom from one side to another.

its amazing that im still allowed to keep fish!

Worked with a pair of marble angels for 2 months. They would spawn regularly, I would pull the spawn & hatch them in a 10 gallon, my usual procedure. Half a dozen spawns, they would become freeswimmers, then all hit the bottom dead within 24 hours. No matter what I tried, 300+ dead fish. Times six. After 1,800 dead fish, we finally attributed it to a weak pair, some sort of genetic problem. Gave the pair away to a friend with no interest in breeding who didn't mind a pair of overly aggressive fish.

For me, it'd prolly just be the expanse. Both my parents love watching my fish, but neither of them like paying for anything, except when Its my birthday..

when I used a new kitchen sponge to wipe off glass, killed about 20 fish, somewhere around 75 dollars worth

Definately the expense, especially as one of my tanks is now marine as well as having 2 other tropicals. Slightly annoying how i still wanna expand my tropical tanks... get so tempted when i see a good deal on second hand tanks lol! When i run outa money will be the signal to stop but im not willing to stop fish keeping till then!

Most of my worst moments involve people being ignorant idiots. When you learn how to keep fish properly and you speak to somebody who says something along the lines of "I keep fish too!!! Yeah, Got 4 goldfish. 2 for each of ma kids. Cute the way they swim rand tha bowl and gulp from tha top. Shame they dun last more than a month though innit?" Breaks my heart *sob*

Edit: It's even worse when you explain to them why it is wrong and offer them a tank and a filter on the cheap cheap which they turn down saying "tha's all too fancy for a few goldfish. They not bloody royality! Goldfish dun need fil'ers tha's only for them hot water fish"

Ergh...

When my mom told me over the phone that my favorite two goldfish, General Tsaio and Ping died in Huricane Katrina, after four days of suffering in extreme heat and no oxygen. And I wasn't there to help them. That was worse, that I couldn't help.

I did that too. There really should be a warning on ALL CELLULOSE sponges that it's been treated with aresenic (to prevent bacterial/mold growth) and should not be used to clean aquariums.

Mine's a toss up between the time when I accidentally poured the newly hatched frys down the sink, and when I witnessed my Oto, getting sucked up by the filter (strainer fell off) and got shredded by the impeller. That crunching noise was horrible....

Well mine has to be, a few days ago when one of my tanks got cracked, water everywhere.....Nightmare, but i saved the fish, and there still all doing fine.

eww thats horrible blue ram! :(

mine was probably the time i tried to keep 3 baby bristlenoses, two died the night i got them, the other died a week later :(

and also nearly killing my betta with ammonia poisoning before i understood cycling, he survived though and is now in his CYCLED tank.

mine was when the water company decided to clean the pipes in my area, which dropped the ph down to 6 from 7, i lost fish from every water change or about 2 months until i worked out what the problem was, lost about 30-40 fish that month

i went away on a big holiday, 2 weeks.
I trusted someone to come feed the fish every 2 or 3 days.
I came back. there was a power failure(happened the day after i left aprently)over 100 fish/fry were dead. live plants were now dead plants.
5/6 tanks full of dead fish and half filled tanks.

I wasn't a happy person.
