Worst Moments In Fishkeeping.

Hurricanes...

Lost a whole tank due to no power for over a week. I wasn't staying at home, but would come home every day to check on the fish and find more and more dead every day...it was terrible. I couldn't deal with a tank full of dead fish, so my fiance was kind enough to empty it and scrub it out for me. It's been empty and cycling ever since. Cycling is another frustrating thing..

The time when I first picked fish keeping up again and got a 10g that the water had sit in the tank for 2 days with no filter and the only source of oxygen was this treasure chest that blew bubbles every now and then but I had the right kind of heater and I put 4 black tetras in there then they died because I acccidently added untreated water and just added a few drops of decholranator to the tank. They died a few hours later then i got a filter and got 4 more black tetras and one died of pop eye but I still have the other 3 today and all this happened 2 or 3 years ago.

I spent sunday emptying my 57G tank due to a suspected leak only to find that it was condensation under the tank in the space between the glass and the cabinet. (Aquaone AR-980)

Had to re-home 43 fish in a 30G temporarily to achieve that.

Didn't lose a fish thought.

Hmm... either slowly loosing 6 glowlight tetras to a combo of gill flukes (about 3 died from them) and NTD (the rest died from that) or being under the mistaken impression the 15g was cycled (fishlessly), then loosing all the fish except two.

i get upset on a death of a fish but at the end of the day death is part of the life cycle.

the most distressing thing for me is seeing a fish netted for what ever reason, the drive home from the shop and the first 24 hours of adding a new fish ie will it fit in will it be ok etc

My worst moment was when I picked up the krib's cave because I thought the eggs were all gone and loads of tiny krib wigglies came pouring out and I watched the congo tetras gobble them up.

But, I did end up with 4 surviving fry which are still cruising around the tank today!

Had to be the slow loss of an beautiful adult (12cm) three spot gold variety gourami, slowly because of a fin rot, it lasted for 3 months, I was so sad, cos at the time I didn't know what to do, and he was just lossing scales from every part of his body, it was so painful.

:-( Losing my 10 inch pike cichlid in full mating colours, wonderfull fish orange fins with a white border and olive green banded body ,hand feedable aswell :-( still hurts now
