What are you doing today?

@JuiceBox52 it's good to see you able to take on such tasks now, not to mention doing such good work with it.

Is it just me, or is it August too soon? I like July and it shot by too fast. Around here, August is warm days and cooling nights. It's still a great time of year, but August 1 already?

Yes , it is indeed the august month of August already . This coming Wednesday is the exact midpoint of the thirteen weeks of summer . Still plenty of summer left and hopefully a pleasant autumnal season to come . The days are getting shorter here along the banks of The Yellowstone . Sunrise is now just about 6:00 AM straight up and sunset’s a quarter to nine . Don’t waste a day of this beautiful season , it’s all too brief .

Been sitting here on my lonesome all day today. Hubby, daughter and grandson all gone on holiday without me!! I love them all to bits, but I'm happy as Larry (whoever he is) 😜

My bucket list item for my art career was to do a mural. I kept putting it off until my health stabilized, but I realized that is in all likelihood not going to happen, and as I am worsening I should do it before I can’t anymore! I went into it with a lot more confidence and definitely bit off more than I can chew with this one, but only working 1-2 hours at a time with a few days to rest in between has been working out, and I’ve been blessed with a lot of help, I’m just doing the details and my helpers are filling in the bigger areas for me!

I was hoping to get it done before major surgery on the 13th but that likely won’t happen, but as long as there is forward progress I am happy. My body is angry, and I cannot walk for at least a few days after painting for a couple hours, but my brain is happy :)

Excited to see the final product!

Aquarists have Multiple Tank Syndrome but bicyclists have something like it too but I haven’t heard a name put to it . I found a used road bike at the local Play It Again Sports store for the paltry sum of $ 179 bucks . I bought it . Now I can climb better and cruise faster on my long rides and save my three speed for fun town rides . The three speed is way better around town than a drop bar road bike . The upright position is safer I feel and the wider tires handle bumps , chuckholes and gravel better .
This road bike looks new ! The drivetrain is very good and the tires look new and I figure it’s just something that someone bought on a whim and got tired of it fairly quickly . A new one is over $ 1500 smackers !
I took it out on a 32 mile shakedown cruise and it performed flawlessly . I’ve got a few minor upgrades to do but mostly to personalize it and make it mine .

Just got done with cleaning out my six Algae Scrubbers. All that algae would have been present in the water as nitrates, but since algae was grown from nitrates and was removed, my actual nitrates in the tank have to be less than had I not done it.

And this just the clumpy stuff. The finer string algae washed down the basement laundry sink. This is a once a month task and only takes about an hour or so.

I'm getting very good at rethinking everything I do. The problem is actually doing what I think of... So today instead of doing what I want to be redoing I'll be working on helping a house get set up for sale, 4 hours' drive from here. On the way back, I can visit the best regional aquarium store.

I'm sitting on a lawn chair in the shade this morning, reading books and working on a story. I'm deeply grateful for the cooler weather, because we're putting on a massive yard give-away today. It's like a yard sale except I don't have to mess with collecting money from people who probably need it much worse than I do, or haggling over whether a used canning jar is worth 25 cents or 30 cents. Get this junk off my lawn and we'll both consider it a great deal.

That’s a nice one . I like that it’s a hardtail . That’s another acquisition I have to make . I need an MTB for winter and trail riding of which there is plenty around here . How do you like disc brakes ? Can you bleed off speed without locking up ?

Dude hydraulic disk brakes are awesome. I have plenty of control and never lock up unless I want to. I swapped bikes with a friend who has regular rim brakes and the difference is night and day. Never going back.

Got a spam phone call today by a group that says they are "Microsoft Windows' which, of course they have nothing to do with Microsoft. Haven't had such a call in some years but did the same as the last time. LOL! I played with the person for a while acting like I was all concerned then laughed and told the person that I had 5 awards from Microsoft and used to own my own computer repair business. Also acknowledged that MS would never initiate a phone call as to system issues as they just don't do that.

I had fun playing with the call and, at least, wasted the person's time while spending 20 minutes on the phone That was 20 minutes that the fool was not ripping off someone else.

You’ve got hydraulic huh ? Is there a lot of maintenance and bleeding the system and stuff ? How does mechanical disc work then without hydraulics ? I do know that disc brakes are way easier to work on for cars . Drum brakes are easy but time consuming and fiddly . I don’t mind caliper rim brakes on bikes . It’s all I’ve ever known . And , hey , what about wet brakes ? Hydraulic has got to be better than wet rim brakes . Wet rim brakes will give you a thrill you might not like 🤣 .

Welp , out for a little bike ride this morning . Taking the three speed with my saddlebags so I can pack along a short handled broom and little dust pan . The other day I rolled across a broken glass bottle which , fortunately , didn’t pop my tires and I want to clean that up . This is the third time in three different spots I’ve cleaned up broken glass which sure looks like some joker threw the glass bottle deliberately at the bike trail . In fact I know that’s what’s going on . There’s clowns that think it’s funny messing with cyclists . Monday I took my road bike out and some goofball drove past me leaning on his horn and then made the universal signal of displeasure at me . Gee , I must have held him up for all of five seconds . Over sixty years riding bikes in this town and that’s the FIRST time anybody ever flipped me off . I wish I could have caught up to him to tell him that . Almost all drivers are courteous and give me my share of the road and I return the favor by riding predictably and obeying the rules of the road but there’s always one that’s a jerk .
