What's new

What are you doing today?

We all go belly up sooner or later. Life's a weird race because we don't know where the finish line is until we get there.

At least some of the aid stations have bacon, so that's good.

Maybe he was right but look at where he ended up. Dead as a door nail. Perhaps he would have lived forever if only ......
Oh, MAN! I wouldn't want to even think about living forever. A hundred or so would be sort of cool just to reach the century mark but to live for ever? Sooner or later you have done everything and life would have to become a total bore.

Well - you view it wrong - I wish i could take naps and wake up for a week once every 100 years to see how things change. It isn't a perfect solution but i want to know what becomes of the world; though I suspect i will be quite disappointed as my faith in people is already quit shaky.

I hear what you say but what you say doesn't work. Take someone in prison for 40 years. They get out and can't function in the 'new society' as they are, pretty much, 40 years behind.

Being asleep for a hundred years would be even worse as you would not have even heard of the newer tech. Mayhaps extensive training could help but it still remains that you have skipped a century and likely could not survive in the new society. You would probably even have issues with conversations as the language would have changed to newer slang.

The idea of immortality sounds wonderful but, in my opinion, it would be a curse, not a blessing.

Well all I can say is you are being very pessimistic and if i could live forever as described I would optimistically be able to absorb the information upon each waking.

I could handle living as a ghost, I think. When I travel I find myself wondering what it would be like to have a life in the various places I see, and following that idea could keep a mind busy for a very long time. There could be millions of quite interesting lives in interesting places. I could go for a multiverse without the spiderman/comic book silliness.

Alas, my mind and body are the same thing - I don't have a body, I am one. So benign haunting isn't in the cards.

I'm a student of history and I'm perfectly willing to see this as an ancient past if I get to. I've seen amazing things, met amazing people, and see no reason why there wouldn't be more exciting things in the future. A much longer lifespan with health wouldn't be boring.

I have all my work done for the week . Got the carpet shampooed yesterday , got the yard spruced up nice , laundry is done and today is supposed to be HOT . So I think I’ll spend the bulk of the day doing aquarium maintenance and feeding . Make up a couple new fly cultures because the warm weather seems to accelerate them . Yeah , a nice easy fun day playing with the fish and I’ll slip out for a run later this afternoon . I like aquarium maintenance / water change day because I take my slow sweet time at it and take a good long look at the fish . Isn’t that what we like most ? The fish ?

Today's trail run. The birds are blue grouse (not very blue this time of year)

I should have taken pictures of today's adventures. We kayaked up a local river, but turned up a creek to explore. It was a quiet water with a strong current, and it meandered through woods with no houses or real signs of people - just an owl, 8 species of aquatic plants and fantastic scenery. There were four of us, and no one spoke for the whole paddle, til we decided to turn around when the narrowing stream was blocked by a tree fall.

Without the kayaks, we could never have seen this place, and it was magical.

I fed the local fish an endless stream of smacked deer flies, none of which got a bite of me. They were the only downside, but it was an excellent summer day.

That sounds absolutely wonderful, Gary, even the deer flies--smacking those things is intensely satisfying. Leave it to you to keep count of the exact number of aquatic plants encountered.

It was very hot on the mountain today and the trail I chose was on a south-facing slope, a serious planning error on my part. I was about the only one on the trail, so I ran/hiked without my shirt on for about an hour, getting a rather spectacular sunburn in the process. I showed this to my wife and daughter, telling them that I was finally doing something about my farmer's tan. My 17 year old Badgerling was completely exasperated: "Didn't you put on sunscreen?!" My wife, somewhat younger than me but old enough to understand Generation X, explained. "He's a child of the 70s. They don't believe in sunscreen. Their parents just smoked cigarettes to drive the cancer away."

Not too far off...

There's a downside to my aquatic interests, literally. There I was, looking at the plants and gathering a few, while my buddy listed off all the birds he'd seen while I'd been looking down. At one point I saw what looked like nesting from some sunfish, when coincidentally, at that moment, my friends spotted a nest in the trees with a bald eagle in it. Somehow, in the hierarchy of beautiful things, the eagle is supposed to be higher up than the sunfish...

I don't buy it.

Today I collected the best mother-in-law ever. She's 93 years young, fitter than all of us, and has the sense of humour of a comedian. She is staying with us for a couple of weeks, and she's always welcome to stay longer. Not your normal mother-in-law. ♥️
