What are you doing today?

I’m at the beach with son, son in law, daughter, granddaughters, wife and 35 of my wife’s closest cousins. It’s a zoo. This is an annual tradition going back 27 years.

@Lanpenn
You have done well with the final shading in the hair. I like the eyes, they are part of the face, not just placed onto the face.
Don't be overly concerned with materials, art is creative not prescriptive so enjoy exploring your own techniques and mediums.
Blending stamp
Blending stump is like a roll of paper to smudge and blend the granite pencil around. If you have cotton buds they would be fine for this purpose.
I have Faber-Castell's pencils 2B, 4B, 5B, and 6B,
These are good quality. It is good that you vary the pencils to create depth. You need a 3B next, lol.
stick razor
Could this be a stick eraser? A rubber with a pointed end for accuracy?

3 hours of disconnecting things and the engines almost ready to pull. Just need to disconnect driveshaft, drain the tranny, and release the exhaust manifolds from the cats. View attachment 370205
It looks like a Camaro, all right? It seems to be an interesting car. The engine seems to have cylinders in a "V" for its form.

@Naughts Yeah, it seems to be a stick eraser (probably called here as "caneta borracha"). Do you think "3B" would be essential? Thank you for your tips and your feedback!

Its 99 mustang 3.8.

Such an amazing weekend! I’m happy with where I placed (second runner up) considering all that happened and all the medical emergencies that happened which unfortunately impacted my scoring. It was also super awesome hanging out with Jeremy Parsons from People

There’s a house down the street that has a “free walking sticks” sign in a corner of their yard. I noticed the other day that they were out, and I had a bunch of chokecherry and juniper wood that was too twisty to make bows, so I polished a few of them up and replenished their walking stick supply for them.

Cool thing to have done, @WhistlingBadger . A good idea there.

I'm halfway through a week with some of the finest houseguests a person could have. It's a treat when you meet someone from another continent and a different enough society and you click into the same wavelength easily. Yesterday, we photographed songbirds in a stand of evergreens beside some surf hitting low cliffs on the Bay of Fundy. There were 7 species in there, according to the song app we were using, and my friend got a few. I'm not a birdwatcher but I get it now. It's what fishing was like when I was a kid, only nothing gets hurt. There's stillness patience and uncertain results. I'll probably go back to that spot, and to others, once my guests are back in Europe and I'm back to doing these walks/hikes on my own.

I need to sharpen my skills in observing the small details of nature. I usually walk too quickly.

Today, my tour guide life continues, down the coast to the south to a good place for lunch, then a meandering return via the old roads through a few small lobster fishing harbours, hopefully getting in before the predicted rain starts. There will be talk of Cichlids and killies.

Not essential, but 3B is my personal favourite. I use it for the initial sketch, for the first bit of shading, then add the softer (darker) grades.

Today, (about 2AM) Linda and I returned from a road trip that was originally figured to last a day. What began as a breakfast in Vermont ended in walks on Long and Short Sands Beaches in the Wells Maine area.

How did it happen? I do not really know, it just did. We had the two dogs with us so after breakfast we decided to meander through western Vermont. Eventually we reached Bethlehem New Hampshire where we enjoyed a late lunch, looked at each other and said why not Maine as long as we were halfway there. I quick call to a friend ensured the chickens and cat would be tended until our return and off we went. We were fortunate to find lodging just outside Wells and had a fine time.

We used to do spontaneous trips often but had lost the skill some years ago. The rediscovery of the adventure was nice and will be repeated this fall.

I have decided to search for blending stumps (known here as "esfuminho"). However, there are different categories ("numbers"), so I do not have any idea of the differences.

For now, I am using a small paintbrush. For a stick eraser, I have been trying to use the eraser from my mechanical pencil, although I do not know if this will work. The stick erasers are more similar to those shown in videos I watched; they are much more expensive than this one I just found. The tip sizes are different; it seems that the tip with the size of a common pencil is much more adequate for detailing the hair than a round tip, such as an eraser from a mechanical pencil.
