What are you doing today?

I want to start adding some topwater into the mix. Most of the time I try throwing a frog and I get nothing. If there is a blowup, then the hook doesnt set. I've mostly been finesse fishing lately.
I used to not be confident of topwater at all so I never threw it.
I'm still a little wary of it but im definitely more confident with it. I like it in shallow water (1-6 feet) or clear water.

I feel that with the hooksets on the frogs. I had a nice bass take my frog but I think I set it too soon. I also have a mono leader... which doesn't help with the hooksets really lol.
Later down the road I'll probably get a cheaper heavy-fast rod to use for a topwater frog specific setup with straight braid so the hooks set easier.

I just snapped the tip on one of my baitcasters, so I'm in the market for a new one. I think I'm gonna go with a lighter action this time to really feel the nibbles while finesse fishing.

@connorlindeman and @Rocky998 I think I win the smallest fish award. He had to weigh a good ounce or two. I'm not sure how he got the fly in his mouth, and he flew a good 15 feet through the air when I twitched my wrist to set the hook. 🎣

You use a bfs?
I've never used it, but I did see a more "afordable" bfs rod by daiwa. It's the daiwa tatula XT BFS rod. It's 99.99 on Tackle Warehouse
Gets good reviews. Most of the bad reviews are just saying they didn't realize it split at the handle, which is just them not reading the description lol.

Today was just too cool!!!!! :)

First, a lady in my apartments will hit 103 years old July 5th.

Second, Sheridan WY has a drum and bugle corps that does parades, rodeos and such over a few states.

Third, today was their only opening so it may have been some days early but they showed up and gave her a birthday concert. She was in tears. :)

Just WAY to cool that they did this and did it for free. 🥰

Is that the Seventh Cavalry corps? When I student taught in Sheridan about 30 years ago, my supervising teacher was in that group. They're a lot of fun! So cool that they did a birthday performance for your friend.

No they are known as the Custard Drum and Bugle. They seem to mostly operate through the local Eagles Lodge. Personally I think that the drum and bugle I did in boot camp was better but it was cool as to what they did.

Actually I was given a rare honor in boot camp. There was also a flag team involved that was controlled by drum rolls. Normally this drummer was the senior as to what company they were in but my second to last week in camp the guy that would have done the flag thing wanted me to do the drum rolls instead of himself. He just said that he wanted the graduation show to be good and that I did the rolls a lot better than he could do. May seem minor but I was actually given a pretty big honor. Think about it. The entire parade ground is at Parade Rest in front of a bunch of major officers and I come to attention to do the rolls for the flag team, I'm the only one at the start that moves coming to attention for the rolls. It was considered an honor to do this once and yet I did twice. LOL! I was actually a bit freaked about this and another member that was right in front of me had to throw fingers on his hand to help me keep count of the number of rolls.

Like I said, it may seem minor but this was actually a pretty big honor. I was also part of a smaller group that played Taps when the base flag was taken down. Another honor I will never forget...

Oh, by the way I also, with our that group played a half time show for a game between San Diego State and Bowling Green. That was pretty cool as I was still actually in boot camp but, after our half time show, I was free to roam and just enjoy the second half. LOL! Actually in boot camp yet able to have all the beers I could handle. ;)

I should probably start a thread --- What did you do yesterday. My posts are nearly always yesterday.

Last night we went to a semi local Italian joint that had come highly recommended. My LA cousin wanted Italian. Place was nice with a lot of what my mother called Northern Italian ambiance, that is where her parents immigrated from. The meal was very good, and the wine and beer selections were outstanding. I had a dark brown ale from a local brewery before the meal and another after desert. A deep red Chablis during the meal. I was very impressed they served the ale at cave temperature. Ale is not a brew that should be served so chilled it numbs the taste buds. At my home bar I serve ale at 55F give or take a degree. The place will be worth a repeat.
I was very worried my legs would act up because they did almost all day. Heavy cramping and shooting pains from the toes to my hip. I made it through the meal with little problem though. Apparently, my belly can overcome my legs.

Mabel the dog and I had a productive morning. I woke up at five, and she wandered out 30 minutes later. I made a pile of spawning mops out of acrylic yarn, and she decided to immobilize the yarn by biting it. It took a little longer with such an able assistant, but I have ten new ones and a need for another ball of yarn.

I have a couple of of species whose eggs seem susceptible to saprolegnia fungus. They start out well, clearly fertilized, but around day 8 of their 14-18 day incubation, they get overrun. I think the fungus spores may be hiding in their mops.

Methelyne blue doesn't do the job, and I can't get acriflavene here (and dislike using it). I'm going to get creative, but clean mops are stage one.

I hate to admit defeat with these things, and killie keeping is a perfect hobby for those who like pottering around and experimenting. There are so many means to an end, sometimes. Other times, you have to find that one trick. Every species is different, every tank is different, every diet varies, temperatures vary, and on we go, enjoying a good challenge.

Sigh, I think I'm done with getting ready for my apartment being inspected Friday. LOL! The prep involved running a mop on my kitchen floor just to look better. Oh, I did also run a vacuum on the carpet but that was normal for this day of the week.

I REALLY hate these inspections that happen twice a year but that is a price paid for only paying $792.00/month USD including electric. I live in a senior apartment and the inspections are just part of the deal.

I have to laugh at some of the residents when these inspections come up as they freak out and go haywire trying to make their place perfect. I don't bother with that hassle. I live like I live and am bad on some things such as dusting. Don't get me wrong as my place is basically always clean but there is no way to keep up with the dander put out by my cockatiel so the place always seems dusty.

Really the inspection is no big deal as they are just checking smoke detectors and making sure that everything is working. Ya, if your place is a total disaster, you could have problems but I've been here a bit over 12.5 years and have never had an issue. It is just that I am a bit of a loner/hermit and just don't like people in my place unless they are invited.
As long as they’re not doing the white glove test who cares for that price . That’s a great deal on rent , especially with electricity included . I’m getting like you more all the time since my wife passed away . I never have company and don’t want any either . Peace and total silence are great . I don’t even like to go to the grocery store 🤣 .

Wow ! 103 ! That’s awesome ! Awfully very nice of those guys to give her that tribute .

I was in Cody for their July 4th parade in ‘98 or so and they did the 7th Cavalry anthem , Garryowen , and that was so awesome ! I half expected George Armstrong Custer himself to ride by .
