What are you doing today?

Today, I'm going to maintain one sponge filter, I've been watching it and it's covered with shrimps all the time. I might have to create a diversion before, loll.

Also I noticed air flow was kinda lower even if the sponge is clogged hard, so I went to check the air pumps that are located in another room, far far away... Cant stand them buzzing. And opened the door to a musical rattling that had a deep grunge influence.

This was not more than a year old... Not strong. I have a couple spare ones but now I'm mad to know they wont last

Looking at a Eheim 400 to replace more permanently and keep the Marina 50 for intermittent uses.

In the mean while, my yearly budget for computing material is getting another hit, So a bit of checking and one of the reds has started the irremediable decline and have to replace them sooner that I thought. So I gave green light for 2 WD Red Pro 22TB, a good old CMR architecture. That should consolidate my data for a while.

I could see a couple of orange neo shrimps in my main tank so this afternoon I transferred them to the recently redone small tank. If they are OK, next week or the week after we'll take a trip to Newton Aycliffe and get some more from Horizon Aquatics once they are back in stock.

What are you doing today?

Just made another section on my website. I've divided the section "wild guppy" into two sections. The first one will describe wild guppies of "Poecilia reticulata". And the second section will describe wild guppies other than "Poecilia reticulata". This means wild guppies like Poecilia kempkesi, Poecilia obscura and Micropoecilia species. The Poecilia wingei (pure endlers) has got a separate section.

I’m am sitting in my fish room drip acclimating Boraras merah that just arrived from Dan. These fish will be added to my Asian nano tank presently occupied by
Danio margaritatus. The new Phoenixes are really tiny. I am surprised Dan shipped them this young. I’m drip acclimating because Dan’s water is liquid rock and my nano tank is a soft water tank.

It's seven hours later, at least in my time zone. How did it go?

How can B merah be smaller than adult ones???

It's raining and I have a sore leg, so this evening, I'm going to read the latest Killi Club du France journal that arrived in the mail today. If I won a lottery, maybe I'd go to their convention in September. That doesn't look likely, but the journal is always really well done. I'm going to listen to a posthumous Ali Farka Toure release I found, and do some learning.

The Boraras merah juveniles are looking healthy now that they have been in the tank since noon EST. No color yet after their tortuous journey. But I swear I need a magnifying glass to see these guys. The CPDs look like whales next to them.

When I was in my local privately owned fish store with 700 plus tanks which has been in business since 1967 they had 3, 15 gallon tanks completely filled with CPDs. Amazing sight. They wholesale fish in addition to their retail business.

Saw the back doc yesterday. He went over the MRI and also took some X-rays. My lower back is a mess, (I did not need a doctor to tell me that). Seems one of my vertebrae is sliding around. It moves in the opposite direction of my body, bend forward and it slides back, and the reverse and also side motion. He is not certain how he wants to address the situation, injections, shaving, or fusion. I told him I have done some research and was favoring a procedure called MILD. We were at an impasse, and I will get a second opinion. My feeling is injections are temporary fixes, and fusion is a bit overboard. My primary care doctor is setting up an appointment with a second doctor. Afterwards I will decide on how to proceed. I am not one who blindly follows without deep explanations when it comes to being cut open.

Although both Linda and I are currently hobbled all is caught up now. Over the next few days I will be assembling the summer kitchen. Most of the build has been done in shop and a concrete pad, (8 by 12), is cured and ready to use. The next two days are expected to be nice, and I should be able to get the basic assembly completed. A friend is coming over later this morning to assist. He really wants some smoky ale, and the work is just an excuse.

It's funny. There aren't many of us who participate in this social little thread, and a lot of us are hobbling around trying to get things done no matter what.
Today, I have just moved 5 aquariums to a new rack set up. I'll then take down the rack they were on, giving myself better sightlines for other tanks.
We have a friend coming to stay with us next week, and she has a tiny rat dog terrier thing. It's very cute but not very charming. So the next job is to fix a spot along the back fence where it might escape and cause much drama. I don't want that, even if this dog is a yappy beast. I want the dogs to be able to run and burn off energy having fun, but I don't want them to join a deer herd and go bum stuff from tourists.
Traffic on the road out front is picking up. I think it's going to be a busy year out there because Canadians are staying north to vacation, and we're getting a lot of Maine, New Hampshire and New York cars with cool bumper stickers on them already. We're already seeing camper vans. It doesn't usually get busy until the cruise ships start coming in, but this is looking like a good year for people working in the tourist trade. The traffic means we really have to watch the dogs though.
I have to go pull some ornamental grasses that are invading my garden out front. Then I can pop in some sunflowers I started. I like placing sunflowers in odd spots, because the deer don't destroy them and they look goofy all summer.

After that, a few chores and maybe a limp along behind the dog, and I can go to the fishroom to do fish stuff.
