Packages not installed are skipped automatically, but if you have an HP and want to keep some of these just put a # in front of them

I've Installed win11. Was a very annoying process had to unplug the ethernet cable a few times to pass all the opt-in Windows programs. Also ran that script and it has worked wonders. CPU usage at idle went from 8% to 3% :) thanks again

Yessirr, I use an answer file to bypass the initial process, Also You can use a software called Rufus to write your ISO to a thumb drive, It also offers a couple more goodies that your can "hard code" in your distribution.

I haven't heard of that crime - it's local news, but from what you said, I hope they capture him quickly. It's always stressful when these guys are out there on the run, especially if it's a wooded area.

Far away from there in a place called here, it's foggy and rainy, since it's the weekend. We had 5 days of wonderful sunshine when everyone was at work. I'm putting my fishroom downsizing project on hold for 2 days while we visit family. I've had a couple of minor issues that made aspects of the set up impractical, and by eliminating all the 5 gallon tanks and one 25, I can give myself what I need to enjoy the rest of the set up more. The removal of two wooden racks simplifies draining, filling etc greatly, and declutters the look of the room.
It is local but it has also made national. A father kidnapped his three daughters (9, 8 and 5) and killed them in the woods up past us. He’s been on the run for a few days now, national guard has been brought in to help search for him. They’ve closed down hiking trails people wait YEARS to get permits to hike, so people who have traveled across the country to come here are being turned around and sent back.

Crazy stuff...

When we where young and hanging in parks past hours... We heard some kind of a fight coming in the mist...

After a couple seconds... Gun shots... Struggling sounds... More gun shots... More struggling...

And that was coming our way... We split like grasshoppers... And never hear anything about it nowhere.

And it's impossible that at least 20 families didn't jump off their beds.

I actually host an image site. No bells or whistles just storage although you can have all the albums you want as sub albums to your main. Yje UI would likely also look a bit odd. It was put up for some photographer friends and does zero compression on uploaded images so what you put up is what you see,
I registered for the website, however, I still did not receive a confirmation e-mail.

Once again, I am trying to culture brine shrimp. My other air-pump is terribly noisy, and it has also lost some power (I complained about that with the company that distributes this product, but I did not solve the problem). The Tetra pump is fantastic, no issues. The Maxxi-Pro 2000, on the other hand, already has these problems. I will try to find out, because I do not know if there are Tetra pumps available in Brazil without importing directly. Does anyone know if there is a way to reduce noise from the pump?

Had a call late last night from my cousin who lives in LA. We have always been pretty close although she is 5 years my senior. She is also quite close to my mom. She called to tell me she will be here for 10 days beginning June 21st and will be staying with my mom. She indicated that after talking to the 93-year-old we will be having a barbeque at my house for the family, (my siblings (4) and their families and a few of her friends. Seems mother dear has volunteered Linda and I but failed to tell us. Linda and I are not thrilled due to current infirmaries. I will be speaking with brothers tomorrow, after I cool some more, to explain one or more of them need to step forward because we are no longer hosting large parties.

May well have gone to your junk folder which often happens with such registrations. PM me the registration info such as user name and I will manually activate.

Remotely rebuilding a degraded RAID in SWMBO's office. Checked the backup server in my fish room (oops I mean office) and spotted a few disk errors in the logs so doing that one too although its well within tolerance.
Not very exciting but gratifying to know something I set up 120k hours ago (thanks to the logs for that info :D ) just worked when I needed it :kana:

What brand and Model HDDs, this is worth a mention, very few goes nearly 14 years without losing alignment and also magnetic degradation causing bad sectors.

In really tough enterprise grade disk, you can copy the data over another drive give it a low level format and restore the disk to 100% health. I try to do it every 5-6 years on vital drives.

They're WD Reds. No issues with their lifespan - even if its nowhere near the quoted MTBF rating ;). They don't actually have to work very hard. I have offloaded as many apps as I can to the cloud (DB Backups used to be the bulk of the usage).
Its a small law practise so outside of the apps cloud storage is not economically viable, and of course its a heavily regulated industry and subject to GDPR as well as data retention rules; some stuff has to be kept for 15 years (but for GDPR must be deleted after that).
Still working on persuading them that you don't need multiple copies of everything - e.g if you load an email into the case management system your don't need to also keep it in Exchange AND store a pdf of it locally  as that becomes a compliance nightmare. But at least I have finally conviced them that also keeping a paper copy (just in case!!!) is **** stupid.

Oh and the offsite backup is a valid business need - but the biggest user of that device is me as that's where my massive collection of raw photos lives. I stopped being a pro years ago but still do the occasional gig and get requests for things that I did years ago. Those drives are dirt cheap so refreshing them when they start showing errors is a no brainer. The RAIDs were only degraded because I de-activated the disks that are beginning to show I/O errors. As you say magnetic media does not improve with age so its only a matter of time before bad sectors start appearing.

As to spin drives my preference is HGST. These drives used to be Hitachi but Western Digital bought them out. At least WD kept up the quality unlike Seagate when they bought out Maxtor.

Excellent choice. Atm Western dig is still maintaining me a big fan for the last 20 years and more, today I use Gold for Os and Purples for data, I have a couple of old Reds that are going trough their 7 years spinning and a bunch of WD Raid Editions (RE) even older, these have unlimited workload per year and show 0 wear to this day.

So my next step will probably be a bunch of purples. They are a little more expensive than the reds but have much higher payload support... Or maybe The Red Pro, that gives similar performance but at lower power consumption.

My M.2 PCIe drives are WD but, as to a spin drive, I will normally go with HGST over WD even though HGST is a line of WD. Between my two desktops I have 20 TB just for media storage such as a movie library of well over 1000 titles. In both systems this is composed of 1 each 4 and 6 TB drives all HGST... Well one or two may still be Hitachi, I know at least one is. Two of these drives is around 12 years old with no issue.

Here is something to consider. One of my media drives is only 5400 RPM. If I had it to do over all four would be 5400 RPM. Same thing with a dedicated data drive. That may sound off the wall but consider this.
  • Less heat caused by the spin motor. As with anything computer related heat is the enemy.
  • As a media drive a 7200 RPM is not going to display a Blu-ray video any better than a 5400 RPM drive.
  • A 5400 RPM drive as a dedicated data drive is not going seem any slower when it comes to loading a Word document or other types of data files. I only mean this as for a dedicated data or media drive. For a system drive and/or such that would be used for video editing, Speed is the factor and I want the fastest I can get.
