What are you doing today?

Also bending this beast a little further. Got the limbs evened up. It is really acting like it wants to spit some arrows!

Cool! Since you call it a 'beast' I assume it will be a hunting bow. What kind of poundage do you expect?

Also I'm curious. Have you ever built a crossbow? A guy I know in Ohio has one but only the stock is wood. The rest is steel. Shoot, I don't even know if thee is a wood strong enough to match the image below as it has a 150 pound pull.

I'm going for 55 pounds at my draw length. Heavy enough to do the job, but not so heavy as to wreck my shoulders. I'm a little worried at how much the recurve is pulling straight on the left side. It isn't supposed to do that. Hopefully it will be OK...

I've wanted to try a medieval crossbow for a while. People do them. I think the actual bow part is usually made of hickory or elm--really tough, resilient woods, and I think they're usually backed with sinew or bamboo. I've looked at a few videos of how to do it. Should be a fun project if I ever get around to it.

Waiting for the rainbow 🌈
It's raining but the west side is sunny (ignore the crap photo from the crap phone), while the north window is gloomy

It is raining, there was even a gorgeous slice of lightning I saw outside my north facing window.

Just arrived in Manhattan on Amtrak. Our hotel room is the size of a jail cell. But it’s fresh and clean. Tomorrow we see the Metropolitan Opera company’s performance of The Marriage of Figaro. I love Mozart and love his operas. This particular opera is very funny.

Jet lag is one thing, but I'm feeling Spring lag really badly today. The trip to Paris and Prague was beautiful, but it was also into full blown, tulips up, lilacs blooming, bright green everywhere Spring. That was wonderful.
Now it's brown grass with hints of green, poorly developed buds on the trees, cold winds and a seasonal lag of a few weeks ahead. When Spring in Canada happens, it happens fast.
It will come, won't it? It's never going to look like Paris in this neck of the woods - I won't ever see that diversity of people or hear all those languages in this lovely backwater, but now I'm impatient for a new season.

The fish all survived, even the fry which have grown well.

It was interesting. In terms of day to day technology, things were quite advanced there - maybe more than here. But bookshops were thriving in both cities - paper books galore. If I'd had more luggage space, I saw a number of things I would like to have read.

A neighbor friend was talking to the roofing crew's foreman. They were supposed to do the entire roof of the apartments and storage sheds in two days and we didn't think it was possible but they just might make it as, including the foreman, there are thirty people on the job.

They woke me up early this morning with all the noise but, happily, I remembered the ear plugs next to my bed and went back to sleep. ;) Nothing unusual about getting woke up early on a Friday though. There is a dentist's office next to the apartments and their dumpster gets emptied every Friday at around 5:45 AM and the dumpster is even with my unit. Personally I don't think they should be allowed to to do noisy stuff that early in an area with residential units. Where I lived in Florida they had a "nuisance law" where noisy stuff could not go on before either 8:00 or 9:00 AM, can't remember which but it sure helped when they were building a house next to the one I rented. I was up and off to work before the noise started. ;)

And the day continues... ;)

I may install a few more apps but I have another computer system basically done to donate. It is an old Dell XPS laptop that still runs well. Well, runs well with Linux Mint. The thing is at least 15 years old but does pretty well.

Normally my donation systems go to families with kids that can't afford but, in this case, it is going to an older lady in my apartments that lives in the unit next to me. She gets a free system that will do what she wants and I get $25.00/month USD for letting her connect to my wireless.
