What are you doing today?

And the day continues... ;)

I may install a few more apps but I have another computer system basically done to donate. It is an old Dell XPS laptop that still runs well. Well, runs well with Linux Mint. The thing is at least 15 years old but does pretty well.

Normally my donation systems go to families with kids that can't afford but, in this case, it is going to an older lady in my apartments that lives in the unit next to me. She gets a free system that will do what she wants and I get $25.00/month USD for letting her connect to my wireless.
Just an fyi; it is technically illegal to allow her to use your wifi since you are allowing her to piggy back off your internet connection. Of course everyone (but me) does this sort of thing but still....

That is actually true and this is the third time I've done this. The first time I actually called Spectrum about it and they said, while not really supposed to be done, it is within the same building and not something they would even look at. The way I see it they essentially told me to go for it.

YEA! Roofing is done! :) I'm impressed. One and a half days to strip and replace roofing on a 50 unit apartment including two storage sheds is pretty impressive even with a 30 worker crew. They were also excellent as to cleanup. There is absolutely no sign they were even here. I was told today that the same outfit will be replacing all the siding on the building.

While there are some weird rules they brought in I like the new ownership/management companies. The old management was so money hungry they would not fix anything unless they had no choice as they got a bonus depending on how much under budget they were. The new group promised to bring the building back to where it should be and every sign indicates that they are serious. Shoot, they are even going to paint all the hallways and replace the hallway carpets. One thing I'm not sure that I like is they are replacing unit carpeting with tile except for bedrooms when someone leaves but for residents that are already here it is optional as to if you want to go tile or keep the carpet. I'll stay with the carpet.

As to some weird rules If I was not 'grandfathered in' I could not have my bird as no caged critters are allowed. :dunno: Not sure how that would affect my aquarium as it could be considered a cage but I'm also grandfathered in on that. :)

Many apartments (and even condo) won't allow aquariums without proof of insurance due to high cost of water damage.

I’m on an Amtrak returning home after 36 hours in Manhattan. The opera was great. Mozart was a genius. So sad he died at 36 years old. Experiencing opera performed by the Metropolitan Opera House is an awesome experience. World class operation.

@jaylach
It worked out very well for both of you.
you know what they say:
One hand washes the other.
One good deed deserves another.
You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

I'm not an opera fan so I haven't experienced that genre live. I do like baroque instrumental music, and since I now live in a quiet city with dull winters, I have gone to a couple of Bach and Vivaldi concerts put on in a local theatre with good acoustics by a local orchestra. It's very similar to rock, punk or reggae - you can know recorded versions well, but hearing the depth that comes with a live show is very exciting to the brain and ears. Well played live music is a treat.
Last week on my Prague adventure, I got lost a lot. When I travel, I try to get lost in cities, as that's how you find the cool things. I thought of @gwand because I stumbled across a stately musical conservatory building with its windows open, and an opera singer working through a slow, beautiful piece. It wasn't something I would have listened to in my house or car, but on a narrow cobbled street of 18th century buildings, it sounded very very right. The woman singing had an astonishing voice.
I got to time travel a bit there. I doubt any of my ancestors were ever in central Europe, but if they enjoyed such upper class music, it would have been through open windows like that.
Today, everything is soaked after a night of pounding rain, and the fog has rolled in from the sea. When I took the dog out at dawn, we encountered a herd of white tailed deer, and they scattered like pigeons.

I found Prague to be a wonderful city. It is very musical. A great place to walk and discover. I was there for a neuroscience conference once. I liked it so much I returned for a holiday there. Very nice people.

Yea i was there in '95 and loved it. I'm the sort that just explore things via foot but was close enough to the area that crossed over a canal to the castle that i could walk up there. Must have covered 10 or 15 miles a day. Anyway the bread was great as is the case in most of Europe.

(context - i was working in Vienna Austria for a bit and one of the coworkers lived in Pargue so we drove me there one weekend when he was meeting up with his family - i think it was something like friday early till monday late. He made arrangements for me to stay with some elder lady.

Oh, the bread. It is so good there. On the first half of the trip we found a corner bakery in Paris that had the best cheese bread I have ever encountered. There is so much diversity in quality food places there - it really is wonderful. Through the entire trip, we walked 15 to 20km a day, so I could eat all the bread I wanted. The best local bakeries here wouldn't even make the long list there. They've done a good job of keeping local alive.

My wife and I decided to put some money aside for travel only, when we sold our house. We know the clock is ticking, so we are going to use it while we can still move it. We're hoping to continue in a pattern of 2 trips per year, since at our ages, it's no use waiting for good times to come to us. We have to create them. We aren't going to visit the US anymore, but we're casting around for our next off season adventure. So far, we've enjoyed London, Paris, Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Florence, Prague, Siena, Amsterdam, and Dublin. Any suggestions for a November trip?

Budapest, Thailand and Varanasi, India. Also Cusco and the Sacred Valley in Peru. Patagonia and Santiago Chile.
