What's new

What are you cooking?

Today and tomorrow I'm having chicken foods; both comfort foods. Not yet sure which will be today and tomorrow but here are the options...
  • Chicken Stroganoff with shrooms and steamed broccoli as a side.
  • A chicken sundae. that is grilled sliced chicken simmered in chicken gravy and shrooms Then I do mashed taters with corn and make it sort of a bowl. Dump the chicken, shrooms and gravy in the bowl and instant comfort food.
Some may think that chicken Stroganoff sounds strange as beef Stroganoff is much more common. While I love beef Stroganoff I do with chicken more often. Think about it... Chicken and a cream sauce are made for each other. If you doubt the match think chicken pot pie or chicken and dumplings. Even thinking wings; most popular dip is ranch which, once again, is cream based. Even works with a chowder. Replace the clams with chicken and the chowder is just as good.

Lol I see where you're coming from, makes sense to me. I may give it a go next time I make stroganoff....chicken's a heck of a lot cheaper than beef tenderloin!

After a pulmonary embolism, subsequent clot removal, and a week in ICU I'm not eating much more than french toast and chocolate ice cream. I can't seem to stomach anything else and everything tastes weird to me now. Even water tastes "sweet." I sure hope this isn't permanent.

Ugh, gimme, I hate it when food tastes wrong! It makes me crabby & that's not including a scary ICU stay. I hope you get better soon!

jaylach, I do a chicken &/or chickpea version of stroganoff, often with curry spices. Sour cream makes almost anything better!

The yoga diet again today . Rice and beans . Yesterday it was rice and red lentils . I did chop up half a red onion into it today and that jazzed things up . Oats in the morning rice and beans , lentils or vegetables in the afternoon . I eat like a fish that only gets flakes and frozen brine shrimp . Thankfully I have Bragg’s Liquid Aminos too or this would be way to bland even for me .

You will live past 100 years old on that diet. Just make certain the food is pesticide free.

There was a lady in my apartments that is now in assisted living that, come July 5th, will be either 103 or 104, can't remember which but I think 104. She loves pizza and pasta. ;)

Tonight will be a BBQ chicken breast and pan fried rosemary taters. No veggie tonight as I don't want to over do... ;)

Longevity is governed by an interaction between genetics and lifestyle choices. If you have great longevity genes, you can smoke, drink and eat fast food everyday and still be compos mentis on your 100th birthday. But that is a rare genotype. Most of us have to exercise, watch what we eat, not smoke and not drink to access to become a centenarian.

I agree that genetics are a big factor but I think that a person's mental outlook is, also, a factor. At 71 I'm no where near the 100 year mark but am MUCH more healthy than I should be. I eat a LOT of pasta and other things that, supposedly, I should not. Yet my 40 year old doctor has said that she wished she had my blood results. At 71 my blood pressure and cholesterol are what would be expected at a much younger age and I am happy to say that I don't take a single prescription drug. I'm sure that a lot of this is due to genetics. Heck, my great grandfather died from a heart attack. He was 111 years old and died while plowing his farm fields. Still I think that one's mental outlook is as much of a factor.

My mind controls my body. My body does NOT control my mind.

Still alive and ornery. :) And not just on pizza and pasta but still eats both.

When you think about it pizza is actually a pretty healthy food depending on the pizza. For myself I do mostly veggie pizza which is more or less a salad on bread. I won't do pepperoni on a pizza as it then become a grease pot. I'm just not going to eat something that I have to use a paper towel to suck up the extreme grease.

Speaking of pizza, today I ordered a small green pepper and mushroom pizza. Will have leftovers tomorrow. 🍕

I'm still recovering from vacation. Lots of good restaurant meals. My sister cooked a few times too, different than I make. I didn't even have to sous chef, BIL knew their routine & where things were in their new to me condo kitchen.

We've had a few freezer meals like ham & pineapple, spaghetti, tacos, etc. But tonight it's the totally unhealthy cheese steak takeout ;)

I really need to go to a grocery store soon for more veggies & stuff my husband doesn't buy.

LOL! Ever try giving him a list of things to buy? ;)

Tonight is Chicken Gorden Bleu and pan fried tater wedges with rosemary (ya, I think that taters and rosemary are a marriage made in heaven) There will also be some shrooms mixed in with the taters. I do this in a sort of odd way. I start with the tater wedges in a fry pan and do until they start getting brown. I then add the chicken in the middle of the pan with the taters pushed to the sides with the shrooms over the taters and cover. At the end I uncover and turn up the heat to crisp things. It just works. The Chicken Cordon Bleu is from Omaha Steaks and they instruct to bake but I saute as it ends up much more juicy. Also I do the whole thing in one pan.

You are exactly right about rosemary with the potatoes . My Daughter fixes them like that and they are scrumptious . Never had them with mushrooms before . That sounds like it might be pretty good . I like mushrooms . Is Chicken Cordon Bleu the recipe with cream of mushroom soup or cheese on it ?
