What Are They Doing?

I was just wondering what algae eaters are doing when there just sucking on the water? I've noticed my ottos and plecos do this alot.

sucking on the water? what ever do you mean?
mine hover sometimes......but suck on water?

yon mEan to sAy that when they go up to the surface it looks like they are sucking the top of it, or drinking is an other way of putting it lol. If you watch you will air coming out of them as they take iar in firm the surface, have no idea why they do it, have ahd one of mine do it before! Could not find anything wrong with him. Guess heat and water quality may play into this, not too sure!
But i would not worry too much yet, how often You noticed it. WHen did you last change the water?

My plecos eat food from the surface by swimming upside down. I don't think that is what you are looking for, for an answer though.
