What Are These?

So currently fishless cycling... Noticed some marks in the sand which were unusual, you can't really see from the pic but:

There a little raised sections as if somethings been in or come out of the sand

then today I saw these little guys (one alive, a couple dead) swimming around

You can't really see but there say 4mm long, and look a bit like a tiny tadpole.

So, what are they? Sorry for the bad pictures..better than non I hope

Most likely these are some form of harmless insect larvae that came in while setting up or cleaning the tank.

they may be mosquito larvae or some sort of fly as theres a few flying around

white/grey, if you look carefully at that picture... Its just that colour

i found loads of interesting things whilst cycling my tank. im glad im not the only one that sat staring at an empty tank

It's completely normal, I stare at it even when there is just water and sand in there
