Water Temp. On 100 Degree Days

I live in a wood frame house, in texas. We are having 100 degree days. I leave a window unit on during the day. but still the temp. in the tank gets to 80-82 degrees. then drops to 78- 79 at night.
should I just keep temp at 79-80 degrees to keep the fView attachment 60500luxuating temp down to a min.? Is that to hot for 55 gallon, heavily planted, assorted fish all liking the 72-82 temp. range? Bala shark, tiger barbs, lemon drop (yellow lab), gourami. Or is that much of temp change ok.

I would try to keep it so it does not fluctuate more than 2-3 degrees. Even if it is a little higher than your fish are "supposed" to be kept at, it will be better for your fish as the swings will cause unwanted stress.

As Jacko said, freshwater fish often come from relatively small bodies of water, such as creeks and streams, where temperatures can fluctuate quite a bit daily. On the other hand, an ocean environment, by its very nature, can only move very slowly. For freshwater fish, several degrees change per day is no big deal but, if you keep salt water fish, you need to control the temperature fairly closely.

I agree. The fish will be fine the temp is never constant in nature it will chage a few degrees. Your fish will be fine unless you have cold water fish they should not get too stressed. We think fish are so sensitive but they are way stronger then we seem to think.

leave the lights off and some times leave the hood open
or take it of

The only thing that can be worth doing is increasing surface agitation as CO2 will build up more quickly furing warmer conditions (the converse is that more O2 is also released, but proportionally non-significant.

Thx for all your input. I was worried about ich breaking out due to the fluctuating temp. I am going to try to leave the hood open and a fan. going to keep the temp at 80 degrees. any input on that temp.
