Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum but have been running a small community tank for about 3 years now. I was just wondering if anyone had ever set up one of those small underwater cameras so that they could monitor fish behaviour whilst away from home, either by some sort of internet link or on video later?

Thanks in advance for any help or comments.

Ive got an IP cam that i can view anywhere in the world using the internet. I have it on a tripod fcing the tank now.

look for an IP cam then mount it flush up against the glass...

Thanks for the info, sounds like the sort of set up I'm looking for.

Do you think this is a better option than going for an actual submersible camera, I've seen some of these online and they look quite good. Already have a PCI card with my existing security cameras so I was thinking of just linking to that and setting up remote viewing access.

Have you seen any of these submersible cameras, what do you think?

Thanks very much for the link.

The camera I had been looking at was :

When you mentioned connecting will be a problem, do you mean setting up remote viewing? I have this set up already for some of my security cameras, it's not too difficult - though I do usually get someone with some IT background to help me out........

Thanks again for your comments and info.

Would something like this be able to focus on fish so close to the camera? It looks like it's designed for a longer focal length. There would also be the blind area behind the camera.

lol i was thinking of connecting a common consumer camers, none that i have found offer a waterproof external connection.

the one you link seems ok, though technical data is sparce, other cameras with 380 lines tv resolution, have a quarter mega pixil ccd fine for vid not much good for still work. though i dont know which you want. focus shouldnt be a problem as the lens seems to be very wide angle 55 or 60 degrees. so infinity focus point may well be a few inches from the lens.

lol cs091 blind spot!!! if you place it in the corner of the tank most of the blind spot will be in your livingroom lol
