Time To Start Afresh (Update With Pics 20/10)

Well after putting it off for a long time I've finally decided to completely re scape my tank. Called in at wickes on the way home from work and got this

115l tub in which to house the fish for the weekend

And here's the tank looking sorry for itself

So 260l to play with let's hope my creativeness starts to flow

Currently have 15 black neon tetra 3 cardinal tetra 4 black phantom tetra a common plec and 2 Bolivian rams

Right well what a busy day I've had D

So 11am with one hell of a hangover I slowly lugged the tank outside, gave it a wash with the pressure washed and then a pan scrub

Gave my 2ft tank a clean too before it goes into storage,

Then I set about the sand I used some plant substrate when I first set up the tank but it was starting to rise to the top of the sand and was making it look a right mess

So I set about removing the pellets with a sieve. So sat watching the fish in the pond I got cracking

The sieving did the trick also it removed all the other 'crap' in the sand but still the sand was filthy so I tried putting it in a pillow case and rinsing but still it wouldn't come clean so I had to put a few had fulls in a bucket at a time and rinse until the water ran clear which took forever but I now have sand cleaner than when I first set up the tank

Tank is fully set up now had abit of a play around and settled with this

What you reckon ? I want to get into the Co2 side of things and have alot more plants but it will have to wait untill I get a bigger tank for my plec as he just destroys everything

I would move the 'centrepiece' to the left so you're not automatically drawn to it.

And also about £100 worth of plants.

Yea the plants will come I just don't have much look keeping them alive

The Vallis looks cracking Craig! Get some moss in there and some more hardscape and you will think it is a completely different tank. Get a load of different varieties of Cryptocoryne. Once they have melted and adjusted to your tank conditions they will start to sprout new growth and they're excellent plants to have in a planted setup. Anubias and Java Fern will also do well with minimum care.

I'll have to have alook online I don't really want the cocanut caves thinking of getting some slates and using that to make some different levels throughout the tank today was more of a cleaning exercise than re scape

You can't fault the cleaning process, it looks spanking mate.

get some weeping moss or a different type of moss... and put it on the coconut... should spread all over it would look good =]

but so far it looks amazing


that amount of Vallis is £100?... i just chucked a load in my pond afew week's back it was spreading like mad in my tank and i wanted rid of it
