i have finally decided i would like to try and keep a panda uaru in my 100 gallon tank. firstly is a 100 gallons enough? secondly out of these fish do you think i should remove a any? or am i fully stocked?
female nic
geophagus bra
geophagus sur
geophagus juru
3 * ellioti
5 clown loaches
three 6 inch plecs
sengal birchir
rotkeil
...
i was thinking i would remove the ellioti anyway to my new 50 gallon tank.

i also read that uaru like to be kept in groups and if i'm honest i can't afford a group but in my pratical fish keeping magazine some people state that they sometimes think severums are other uaru and socialize with them as if they were a uaru. also the tank is filtered with an fx5.

so what do you think?

Risky - I think the G.Bra might be a bit boisterous for it but I have seen it in with more boisterous fish, also the G.Sur might be but as with cichlids depends on temperament.

With the groups I would try for it if you can but I'm really unsure of how the do singularly. I think though its like the G.Sur and G.Jur like to be in groups but do okay on their own.

If it were me I would just think do I want to risk an £80 fish.... I mean of course all fishes lives are equal but for me I would base the tank around the pandas and all other fish would be considered around them.

yer i see what your saying. its just as you know it kinda hard removing fish you like. i think tho with most cichlids you need to give it a go and see whos picking on who. but generally do you think my tank could take another big fish i mean on the bio load?

The panda uaru can get to be 12" they do better in grounps as you know but if you had 2 I think they could be happy. But is your tank big enough? Sure it is. But I think if you were to add one to your curent stock it would be just too much. 4 large cichlids 5 clown loach, sengal birchir and a 6" pleco that might still be growing. I think you are fully stocked as is. I would say the fish you have would all work with a uaru but you don't have the room IMO.

Time for another tank. Haha

oh jeez not another haha. i'm not sure at the moment as this sounds really bad, but this tank cannot be long term. when i finish at college in two years time and move out i will not be able to take the fish with me, and will sell up. so with clown loaches not able to grow full size in that time frame it might be an idea.

please don't shoot me down for that idea.
