I am considering moving my 50 gallon tank and getting a max 6 ft x 2 ft 2 ft tank.

I want to know if my initial idea is possible before I start. I would like a birchir, Oscar, severum and a plec/catfish at least.

Do you think that would be OK in a tank that size? If so does anyone have any tips to make the water changes a bit easier for a tank that size. Or anyone have any similar fish together with any general tips?

I've never kept anything big, but some members here do have large tanks. Hopefully they respond :)

@simonas has some very impressive large tanks with amazing-looking fish, they may have some advice on stocking/sizes, etc

For the fish you mentioned, the bigger the tank the better. Typical 110g are either 4 or 5 feet long…too small. Common 125g are 6’, but only 18” wide. Ok but If you can manage a 6”x2” wide, that would be much better. Even that is bordeline for a large óscar, large severum and large pleco. Height may be a bit less important. Good luck!

Thank you. Makes sense to get the biggest I can fit there. No messing about upgrading later

Hi
I keep larger fish including a couple of oscars as MattH said.

I have a 6x2.5x2 for my discus and my bigger fish in a 9ft now.

What I would say is go for it as I love my 6ft tank and you do open up a load of options fish wise but for me if you can get a 30" wide tank its so much better than a 2ft particularly for the larger fish and visually.

Oscars when full size are big fish but I think you would be fine with one in there. When I had my bigger fish in the 6ft before the upgrade I realised the 6ft wasnt big enough for the rays or the 15" male jaguar cichlid I had.

You'll aways want a bigger tank

Water change wise I have sumps on mine so I change about 50% twice a week and always have . I feed my big fish a lot and tend to over crowd a bit so the water changes keep it all sweet

if you're getting bichirs theyre great fish and take ages to grow. I recently rehomed my three as they were a threat to my clowns and I preferred the clown loach but the bichir were 16" long and took about 5 years to get there. Easy to keep and feed just very predatory
Catfish in that size tank well I wouldnt get a common or sailfin plec but again L numbers are slow growing in my opinion and you could get a couple of nicer high end ones

Loads of options with that size tank, I loved my clown loach in there not sure if you like them but loads of space for them to swim
