Hey Lovelies.
Bittersweet day today.
Eris is having fry again, but so far, only 2 proper swimming fry.
She's separated in a bowl and 90% of the fry are unable to break free and uncurl, some are underdeveloped.
She birthed many of these underdeveloped fry in the tank and the adults ate them. I don't get it. Too many weak fry...

Idk, and cannot know who is the father for sure, it could have been Cracker or some other fish at the shop, that she met long ago and could have been a sibling.
But so far, no more free swimming fry. The bowl is FULL of handicapped fry. One cool looking fry in there, but it swims upside down.

Some of them seem to have uncurled, but they still aren't swimming properly.
At least the 2 that are in the fry cage seem ok.
But this leopard fry looks so cool, i hope he can find a way to swim without turning upside down...
I'll give them 3 days to straighten their tails. If they cannot do that by then, and they risk starving, I guess I'll have to give them to the adults. Can't watch them starve to death.

Sometimes it takes them a while to start swimming after they have just been born so they could possibly start swimming soon?

Some more have uncurled. But they just spin like tops... Poor critters...

well im going away for two weeks to house sit for a relative so il still be online. only going back to my tank maybe 3 times in the 2 weeks just to check up and feed the fish. just did a tank deep clean and turned the filter back on and the filter spat out like wet tissue again. i really do need to clean my filter

Just fed my tropical fish and my 3 new fantail goldfish (no, they are not in the same tank...) some mosquito larvae!



Hahaha take THAT mosquitos, that's what happens when you bite me! I feed your babies to my babies!!!

That's one of the best parts of having a canister instead of a hang on back type. You can just unplug for water changes & then turn it back on without it shooting junk back into the tank.

I sometimes feed adult mosquitoes to my fish. They love them to bits.
