Of starting a new tank

What's everyone's favourite part about setting up a new tank? Anyone have any plans for something new?

I've just collected a 180 ltr tank that I won on ebay and can't wait to start I have to wait for the substrate, plants and stand to come first though (fingers crossed it won't take too long to arrive!). Looking to try and aquascape this one- hopefully it will be a lot of fun ^^

Does anyone have any good tips for upgrading without casualties? My fish are in a 60 ltr currently and the new tank is going where they are now. How long will the fish be ok for in a bucket (with a heater and air pump)? And does anyone know if it's worth using "King British Safe Water"? Accidentally picked it up, but it says its effective when starting a new aquarium as it removes ammonia and nitrite. I'll be maturing the filter media for this tank first before I start it up, but it's worth a try I guess?

Move your old filter media into the new filter, then it won't need to cycle. I upgraded my tank a few months ago and didn't lose anyone. The following thread was really helpful to me:

yesterday was my 2nd upgrade with the same female bettas but unfortunately 1 didn't make it

I love to arrange the decor and plants etc, that's my fav part

My favourite part is sourcing all the bits you are going to use. I love spending a day going to 7 maybe 8 shops looking at wood and rocks. Comparing sands, looking at planting possibilities. I never get bored I've already got half the materials i need for my 4ft which doesnt even arrive at my house for another 6 weeks. As my dad always told me, measure twice - cut once. Or something like that

Oh yes you do if you are patient and wait for the bargains to pop up. Some people just dive in a buy buy buy, i prefere to wait it out All this talk has made me want to go hunting, so tommorow i'm going hunting for stuff again Its worth it in the long haul...

yeah, totally agree, i don't drive and living out in the stixs, means there is only so many bargains i can get too. freecycle.org, for me is fantastic, ebay too, if i win bidding wars lol local newspaper community sections are good too.

Think my favorite bit is having an empty tank and a huge pile of stuff bags of soil, gravel etc loads of plants and making 3 hours seem like nothing then sit back and admire your labour and watch it grow. Worst part putting a plec in and watching all your plants float to the top.
