www.freerice.com

tis all about vocabulary, but everytime you get a question right they donate 20 grains of rice to the world food programme. so kill some time and save some lives :good:

You really think they do? They need people to be able to spell and prove it in a quiz to donate rice? o_0 confused.com

it's not spelling, it's vocab, but yes they really do. they sell advertising space on the site, each time you take a question the sponsors pay some money, obv a proportion of that goes to running the site but most goes to the people who need it.

i'm v v picky about what charities i work for, this is geniune

miss wiggles,hows you first?
second do you know how to go about collecting for charity at work.
heres the deal iam off to colombia in july and iam thinking of asking folk at work to donate money for a nun run childrens home in the city, they now have 43 children under the care and not any help from goverment or bussiness's last time we had a hand full of close friends give fourty pounds each, is it against the law to collect for a non registered charity?

Precisley, where I am also theres a big pikey encampent where you get 5 year olds that are drunk, no lie which causes alot of problems, Im not blaming it all on the pikeys at all as the kids round here are as much to blame

hiya nelly, i'm cool

feeling this topic may end up closed cos of no relevance to fish, if you wanna continue discussion feel free to pm me.

not 100% sure of the legality, not dealt with any non registered charities before. however what i suspect is that it's not illegal to collect, providing you make it abundantly clear that it is not for a registered charity. after all if you asked a mate to give you £10 towards a new coat or whatever and he said yes, that wouldn't be illegal would it? it's just you asking for money and someone giving you it. where i would suspect you can fall foul, and depending on what amounts we are talking is tax. whoever gets the money in the end would need to declare it and pay capital gains tax (charitable donations are tax free as i susect you know), obviously you can see the potential problems from not declaring and getting caught out... etc

but as i said before, i don't know the law relating to charitie so if you decide to act on that advice it is entirley at your own risk (just covering my own back! lol)

businesses and so on will not touch an unregistered charity with a barge pole though, and i would suspect if you did any canavssing for sponsorship at your work and any legal savvy boss who saw it would be down on you like a tonne of bricks. anything that happens on their premises they are responsible for, and they will not like a collection for an unregistered charity.

as this is run by nun's, are you absolutley sure they are unregistered..... it surprises me tbh.

for a registered charity to collect at work the first thing is to talk to your boss, as said before they responsible for whatever happens in their premises, so you'd need to have their go ahead. obviously you can get sponsorship from people at work but you can do a lot more too. I happen to be a dab hand at baking and I've done some cake sales which have done brilliantly. Cook a load of cakes and sell them to colleagues, i've raised about 300 quid a time doing this. likewise for seasonal stuff like pancakes and so on, it's easter soon so capitalise on that, you could buy cheap plain easter eggs and personalise them for people with icing, obviously for a fee. we did a pub quiz night once before too which went down really well. loads you can do, just gotta gte creative

yes thats what i thought about the legalitys,,,
ohwell i will have to ask close family and friends,,,not sure if there registered but the storys of there plients is heart rendering
for example one day my mother inlaw went to her farm and collected up all the bananas/mangoes/patatoes etc to take there and when she arrived and the nun opened the doors she burst into tears<thanking my mother inlaw then praying to god for his help in guiding her to them as that perticular day the nun had no choice but to boil up oxo cubes because they had ran out of everything,,,its seriously awful some things that happen

I'm sure it is, and often it's small local organisations that need the most help, that's the sort of project i try to support but they need to be registered for you to do anything remotley official.
