I had planned to have another try at breeding Betta, but hadnt planned to get started so soon. But after conditioning for 1wk(I normally prefer 2 at least) one of my females was very heavy with eggs & displaying breeding bars & looking a little distressed.

So on Friday I set up my betta breeding tank, put Moonlight in the large section & little Rosie in the smaller section & left them there for 24hrs, the next morning, Moonlight had made a very impressive bubblenest under an almond leaf. So I released Rosie & within an hour they were wrapping.

The first few times didnt go too well, all the eggs fell to the floor & were hoovered up by Rosie, but then they got the hang of it & lots were placed in the nest by dad.

I noticed our first wigglers at lunch time today & now there are loads, poor dad was pretty patient to start with, catching the fry as they fell & putting them back in the nest, but he is getting a little grumpy at the ones which like to swim off a bit

Here's the proud dad showing off his nest:

Beautiful marble you have there, looks identical to my boy Alice, where did you get him from? I take it he's a halfmoon too? :)

Thanks everyone, they are doing well this morning, lots more wrigglers & some of the bigger ones keep nipping off for a quick swim.

Here is a pic from this morning, you can make out some of their beedy little eyes lol.

There are soooooo many in there

Congrats KariGupi.
Have you got your plans made and your jars set up for when they start to sex out? You still have 3 or 4 weeks to make that happen.

Thank you, yes I'm all organised, just need to silicone in place, I am using a different system instead of jars, I have some of those big long plastic storage containers & tons of plastic canvas & wire thread, it will allow me to heat & filter for upto about 40 males without worrying about lots of seperate jars & water changes

Thanks Haych, dad's job is done now, I removed him yesterday morning, once the fry are free swimming the males will often see them as food.

Babies are doing brilliantly, I've just finished a water change, which was a challenge lol, after syphoning out the water, I checked the bucket for sucked up fry. An hour later all the fry are back in the tank, I lost count at 140

Thank goodness for the trusty turkey baster!

They are all really healthy & feeding well, this morning they have had their golden pearl crumb which they love, lunch will be microworms.
