Just recently i got loads of new livebearers and i noticed one of them had loads of whitish fluffy stuff all over its head and body.

Rather then put it in with my fish and risk contamination, i put it in to a tank in the garden and put a matured filter in it and a heater, and added a little nit of pimafix, forgot all about it and just now looked at the tank, its dropped to 15deg - forgot to turn the heater on :S, and it was swimming fine and unbelievably its body and head is perfect, not a mark on it, so i put it in a tub and floated it on the surface of my tank and will leave it there for a good while to see if it stays fine

Upon further inspection in the tub, it is seriously doing great, i just cant belive its body and head is now in perfect health and how active it is..

Surely the bit of pimafix has not cured it that quick, and i thought the temp dropping so much would of made it worse but it aint..

Miracle or just luck? i dont know im confused.

Hello ' Mr Oh i dont have time to change my sig...' i know i know, your attatched to the one you got, i understand, Grrrrrr......

How long did you keep the fish outside in the tank for ?

its right near the garage so i can use the power supply of it lol... but theere was nothing in it, just used it cos i didnt want to contaminate anything

It is believed that columnaris or fungus can be helped by lowering the temp of the water - so maybe along with the pimafix this helped :)

Perhaps fish are far more tollerant of water temperature changes than many on this forum give them credit for ;)

This a thought i had..

Seems strange how a rapid drop in temp and all of a sudden the fish is better and active as hell.

I have had guppies survive and thrive when they ended up at 16C by accident so for me 15C is not a big stretch. I find they actually do quite well at about 21C as a long term set up. They breed a little less often at that temperature and of course the gestation period runs 5 or 6 weeks but they are healthy and thrive.
