Hi guys i have a 360 litre tank and just added a new 6 inch red spotted severum which looks awesome my question is i think i like the look of larger fish but not sure what i can stock please can you guys suggest something

Ooooo exciting Severums are awesome! What kind of tank is it? Is this one of the corner ones or is it a rectangle? What are the measurements?

If you like big fish there are plenty of other decent sized south american cichlids you can mix with them. Like any of the geophagus (apart from brasiliensis) or uarus. Then theres chocolate cichlids, festivums, some of the larger laetacaras like laetacara thayeri or some kind of acara like blue acaras, black acaras or saddle acara? Have a google of them and see what you like You could also consider some of the other varieties of severum, like green, gold, notatus, rotkeil or some of the sp species like heros sp belum or heros sp tapajo. Then we get onto your catfish choices and schooling fish, in a 350 you will be able to get some interesting catfish as well.

Ive spoken about south american fish here because personally at this size of tank and fish I would try and stick closer to a biotope that way you have less compatability issues. Also if you keep these kind of fish in a tank you will be sticking with lots of bog wood to make the water the soft side of neutral which will suit these fish rather than other cichlid types like those from central america who need neutral/hard water.

Severums can be a bit territorial. If you want another in that tank, try a female for him.

guys i need some advice, iv been offered another red spotted severum i already have 1 and was looking to add another but the problem is they are unsure if its male or femaale,

would they fight if it was another male as mine is a male.

2 males might be okay, it often comes down to individual fishes personalities. I think it could be a risk either way with how you add another severum as you often dont know the genders of them that easily, do you have pics of your sev and their sev? For us to judge the genders.

Also where are you from a member on here might be able to point you to the right direction for big fish

I would avoid two severums who were both male. Although you may get away with it when no females are present, what will you do when one day you add in a severum and it is a female? That will be the "day of reconning" that you will need to either remove a male or avoid adding the female in the first place. Why put yourself in that position?
