Well after not having to much luck recently i traded my 6 Laetacara dorsigera for 5 Cryptoheros Cutteri on saturday. Well already i not only have 1 pair but 2. Theres pits being dug at opposite ends of the tank with both females really colouring up and breeding tubes out and once poor female stuck in the middle. Im keeping an eye one it and so far the aggression hasnt been to bad, they all seem to have claimed a foot of tank so are staying out of each others ways with only the odd chase if they get to close. Ive picked the pair i prefer so if they lay eggs the other 3 will be rehomed asap. Ill put some pictures up later if they do.

Blimey, all happening very quickly! Shame in some ways, I was following your thread about mixing Laetacara with those "woodcats" with interest, but fingers crossed with the C. cutteri :D

Thats what i thought, they all seemed a little on the skinny side when i got them but 2 days of live foods seem to have done the job. The Centromochlus are a fish ive always wanted but just never had a tank for them, i would have loved to try the mix but the Laetacara just didnt seem right in the tank, even after a few weeks and with all the tangles of woody they where just so skittish and even with floating plants to bloke some of the light the second i come on they would stress out. I put it down to them being new to start of with but it wasnt getting any better. From now on i think ill recommend heavily planted tanks for them. One day ill definitely get a group of the Centromochlus though.

Cutteri are mint fish. I doubt the two pairs and lone female would be able to co-exist in the same tank, especially if they spawn. The lone female is going to get battered and the males will be forever scrapping when they have something to protect.

Pics please so i can compare them to mine. :)

Like i said once a pair does lay eggs the other 3 will be rehomed. Still no sign of eggs but both pairs are still digging.

Im not putting pictures up now, mine dont compare haha. Hopefully they will catch up with age.

LOL!! Your tank looks brilliant btw. Only suggestion would be to paint the back black. That will encourage them to fully colour up and look less washed out. :good:

Cheers, im not massively keen on it at the moment. At some point ill get rid of the slate for more natural looking stones and get some more wood. Yeah i have been meaning to get a black background for a while just not got round to it. They look the best with the tank lights off and just the natural light, it really shows up the shine to them.

:good:

If you google Cryptoheros Cutteri tank and look for some by Lee Nuttal you will get some ideas :)
