If i was to buy 1 or 2 fish of the net. How much extra would shipping cost me. (shipping within us and canada)

Steve,

There are many variables when figuring the cost of shipping....such as............

1. Size of fish. If fish are small...say under 3" they take less water therefore less weight than larger fish.

2. Destination. Where fish are coming from to where they are going. Most shippers charge according to location.

If shipping air freight, than it is usually by weight!! However most freight costs start for between 50 - 100 pounds, so shipping just a few fish air freight would cost you the same as shipping between 50-100 pounds.

Not very economical!!

Most shippers also charge a box (usually $5 - 8.00), heat/cold pack (usually $1.00 each) and some even charge a delivery fee (sometimes up to $15.00) for taking the fish to the shipper!!

Most on line dealers also have a minimum amount you must order!!

Best thing to do is to contact the on line supplier and see what shipping would cost for the fish you wanted!!

This is NOT a plug, but I have no minimum, do not charge a delivery fee. I do however charge a box and heat/cold pack fee!! Why? Because I have to buy the boxes and heat/cold packs and if I didn't charge for them, I would have to charge more for the fish I sell.

I do not ship outside of the US tho!!

how come you don't ship outside us......just wondering? is it more compicated, expensive?

From talking to others in the business, there are export and game and wildlife permits needed.

This adds between $100 - $150.00 to each order.

Some I have spoke to say these documents are not necessary, but I have to believe they are since wildlife would be entering a foreign country!!

I have never checked into this personally, but may one day!!

These extra charges may be acceptable to shops and businesses that are placing large orders, but not for the individual who just wants a few fish.

CM / Steve O,

I used to work in the freight / courier business & my G/f still. CM is right in as much that the cost to ship internationally would far outweigh the return. Most (read all) courier companies will not carry "live" items internationally, therefore you only have airfreight as an option.

As CM said this works on a weight basis, however all airlines have a minimum weight that they will charge (approx 50kgs). On top of that you have to add in special packing for freight, paperwork (yes livestock would require special documentation), handling charges, Customs clearance / handling at destination and finally delivery to your home. So realistically you a looking at a min of about £300 - £350 (and thats being conservative) per consignment up to approx 50kgs (& dats a lot of fish).

Obviously as CM said wholesalers have specialist shippers in place and prob get beneficial rates, this combined with the quantities they are shipping makes it economincal for them..... :D
