Second Stage Cycle Started Today Help

This is several times now of nitrite trying to be higher than ammonia, so its pretty clear that you must be well into the nitrite spike stage of the cycle. Interesting how it seems to confirm that you can sort of "see" it despite it being a fish-in cycle.

Years ago when I was in school I took care of some tanks in my biology class that had builtin drains and faucets (builtin to the tanks)... wouldn't that be a dream for fish-in cycling?

lol ya really

but i love the thing i got goes right to my sink drains and fill in under 20 mins no bucket to carry , just have to watch the fish when draining, lil' buggers are so use to it they don't run and hide they want to play with it , i have almost got a few of them

Agreed, I had a zebra danio the other day go right up the gravel cleaning cylinder portion and was in there fighting the extreme current at the beginning of the skinny siphon part. I was freaking out trying to get him out of there (without losing my siphon suction of course, lazy me, lol) and in truth I think he was really enjoying all the excitement, lol.

thanks for all this.

Yes, its a very good example of why fish-in cycling can be strikingly more difficult and laborious than fishless cycling. Really shows why we try so hard to convince newcomers to fishless cycle, or to try hard to return fish if they've just started without knowing this aspect of the hobby yet. Truely sad that the "ecosystem" of missing/misinformation is so well developed within the retail LFS world.

nitrates 5 to 10

ph 7.2

temp 30 C

all fish good

did 50% water change

will retest in an hour or so

ok test one last time since the nitrites go up very fast and they were at 0.25 again

>what is your set up and how many fish do you have in the tank <

hi still working hard i see, i admire your efforts on behalf of the fish.

I got a 88lt (20Gal) tank with local fish from the river minnow , Dace and so on ,also have some comets in a seperate tank, al cold water , from advice on here and cold water section im gonna swap soem arround and put soem of the fish back into the river to keep fishg density down and have a sociable tank.

I've been reading this about free amonia and combined amonia that our tests give us and it indicates that the dangerious amonia levels we get from the test may not be so bad or require the extent of water changes

http://cobweb.ecn.purdue.edu/~piwc/w3-rese...mmonia/nh3.html

Ibeeing a noob i may get flamed bad for the lack of experience if its a duff article. Wont help you nowe as your past your amonia spike but mayeb good learnign none the less.

bye now

yeah i agree with how helpful this post is to illustrate the process and the work involved because I think you've recorded everything brilliantly lana. with your permission i'll stick a link to it in my fish-in cycling article so when people are just first learning about the cycling process and deciding which way to go they've got a bit of useful reference material.

could someone do the work of extracting the testing readings and the times or cycle day so as to have data record in one place?
