Second Stage Cycle Started Today Help

wow what an ordeal, just read 3 weeks worth lol your lfs must be rubbing there hands together when you walk in all that med and de chlorinator etc i hope everything works out for you
Yes, Lana is one of the few people I've seen that has overcome some difficult beginning and ongoing conditions, has a large tank (with therefor bigger water changes) but has accepted the information and created very good conditions for the fish and stuck with it!

Hopefully this filter will get a large enough NBac population before much longer and Lana can drop back to much more relaxed weekend single water change!

Are you saying that some part of an internal filter system was able to trap and kill a couple of your fry? Filters are supposed to be designed so they can't do that. What do you think is wrong?

ok so now that nitrites are here looks like they are doing what the ammonia did climbing fast looks like back to 2 to 3 times a day water changes for me for the next little bit :good:

Yes, in a fish-in cycle its really hard to follow the course of the cycle with much accuracy, but you know that time is on your side and that if you can out-wait (or out-waterchange!) it, eventually there's just nothing else that can happen except that those populations will eventually build up. Seeing nitrites after a water change, however, has to be a reassuring sign of the second phase telling you its still there. Its great that you've had some pretty enjoyable things with the tank already, to go along with all the water changes.

found another baby doing water change woooohooo that make 2 now

won't have time this morning to retest so hope this was enough til i get home a 5 30

I do think it seems a strong second stage sign that the nitrites want to zoom up so quickly after zero and that plenty of nitrates are being produced. Clearly the N-Bacs colony is growing.
