Hi Lana,
(might as well entertain ourselves talking about the filter some while this cycle takes a long time...)
Could you describe in words the pathway you thing the water takes through the filter and what the material is like that these two pads are made out of. I'm not familiar at all with your model of filter.

ok googled my pump here is what it is

Aqueon Aquarium Power Filter 55 - Up to 55 gallon

The Aqueon aquarium power filter is ideal for all of your aquarium's filtration needs. Accomplishing mechanical, chemical, biological and even wet/dry filtration, the Aqueon power filter features higher flow rates then its counterparts, ensuring proper aquarium turnover for cleaner water. The filter's unique pump design is the first to actually be submerged within the aquarium, so there is no need for priming. This feature also helps lessen noise and the power filter's overall profile. A patented biological grid offers a large surface area for supporting biological bacteria, while a second wet/dry grid provides further biological filtration and oxygenation as the water returns to your aquarium. Easy-to-replace Aqueon filter cartridges provide optimal mechanical and chemical aquarium filtration and include 25% more activated carbon then their competitors.

ok, thanks for posting the filter information. Maybe some member will have tips about using this filter.

Of course, I don't have any reason to suspect anything wrong particularly, I'm just thinking it wouldn't hurt to review things a little bit. When you open it up (I assume you can while its running?) do the "media cartridges" seem to fit tightly and not allow water to bypass the media?

yup it is a nice tight fit and i also added a white sponge clear water type thing to it in front of the filters so i am getting double filter , the water flo is good, i check the flo with and without the sponge it did not change it at all and that is good they catch the smaller crap :good:

so my water change today i did a pretty good clean on the tank took out 5 gallons added fish to it with heater and extra air stone i have, took another 5 gallons set it a side , then a 1 gallon container

drained tank added more water to cover rocks and drained again, took old toothbrush and 1 gallon of tank water and cleaned everything

filled tank with the 10 gallon i had out and clean water with Prime, so i there is my weekly clean :good:

So the media inside the filter looks nice and rich with lots of black and brown debris, right? You've been working so hard, I just hate the thought of any weird thing having been wrong that would cause the bacteria colonies not to be getting close to large enough. Sounds like quite a weekend clean. I missed mine, so will have to do it one night this week of course.

yup nice black brown on them :good:

ya was a good clean , and despite not over feeding man does the tank get dirty even with daily water changes,

with what i did this moring i am hoping i won't have to water change til tomorrow , this is my last vacation day and i have much to do before heading back to work tomorrow , i was so hoping the 4 days i was off that i would of finished cycling but that didn't happen , ok back to changing my house around....lol

Maybe those N-Bacs are just "laughin at ya" knowing they want to give you a big memory of stress so you can remember years later after your future nice and mature filter makes you lazy.

... every now and then I look at my crystal blue zero nitrite test and my crystal yellow zero ammonia result and remember the purple and green!
