Second Stage Cycle Started Today Help

well now 4 30 reading are as follows

ammonia same 0 to 0.25

nitrites 0

nitrates 0

ph 7.2

temp 30C

so my weekly clean saved 2 water changes today :good:

i'll check again befor heading to bed tonight maybe just maybe it will hold til i get home from work tomorrow :hyper:

well it is 9:45 pm just tested the tank

readings are

ammonia 0 yes that was a 0
nitrites 0.25
nitrates 5 stuck at 5 lol

ph 7.0

temp i turned up a bit so it is 33C

so off to do a water change just when i was thinking i would gt away with another today

Wait a min, why is your tank so hot? 33C/91F? That's crazy hot. Did you decide all your fish liked that, or is it just hot bath night or something lol?

That zero ammonia seems really good and the nitrites only came up to 0.25 in the 6 hours or so of evening, right? Maybe we're seeing the bacteria doing more work now... lets hope.

 it is not 33C sorry very tired today ........ it is at the 80 even so 30C til cycled a little warmer to grown the bacteria, so i have read it is good to do that am i wrong

yup 0 ammonia and at 430 0 nitrites so in 5 hours went up to 0.25, so heres to you being right morning will tell i guess

yes the higher temps are good for bacteria growth, but not good for fish. doing a fish-in cycle is a balancing act between the needs of the fish and the needs of the bacteria, but the fish should be your first priority. 30 is a touch high for the fish, i'd pop it at 28 which is on the high side but not terrible :good:

Yes, agreed. Glad you made the typing mistake Lana, caused me to look at those 30C temps that had been going on previously and was going to say the same thing MW just did. In a Fish-In cycle, all tank stats and activities are switched back to optimizing for the fish, nothing is optimized for the bacteria.

ps. morning MW

day 36

6 am readings

ammonia 0
nitrites 0.25
nitrites o to 5

ph 7.0

temp 30 C

all fish ok

did 50% water change :good:

not to bad again no ammonia and nitrites only went to 0.25 :good:

morning WD, how you doing?
wonderful to see you, hoping this means you can withstand those little cold cathode tubes that glow behind the LCD screen

sort of! came back into work today to the new that my firm is struggling cos of the economic climate nad i'm being made redundant......... migraine seems to be coming back for some straneg reason..... can't think why :/

wooohoooooo 5 30 pm reading

ammonia 0 ( that makes last 3 or 4 readings 0) :good: :good: :good: :good:

nitrites almost 0.25

nitrates 0

ph a little lower 6.8 hmmmmmmm

temp about 28 29C

all fish good

off to do a water change now :good:

excellent - nice ammonia results and I see that temp is easing down now after our discussion

See if the water change brings the pH back up some and then keep watching it. Your cycle is behaving differently now and it may be that it will try to push pH down more, but hopefully just water changes will take care of it just fine.

ok water change done and i lowered the temp a bit more added 25C water back to the tank set the therm for 25C should i be ok there.......so in 12 hours i have lowered the temp 5C ......... hope they don't go into shock on me

no idea what is going on with the ph, it has been so good holding at 7.2, what would of caused the drop ? Lowering the temp ?

i will post the readings in 1 hour just finished the water change, they were sort of ok so i ate supper first tonight :hey:
