i so agree, he got a good laugh out of that one , he says don't give me any ideas

so to bring a end to day 37 i think

all fish ok

8 pm after 60% w/c
ammonia 0.25
nirtites 0

I know there was some talk about this getting pinned, like, a zillion posts ago. Ive been following this daily and i think this a GREAT example of fish-in cycling and the work that is involved. Just wondering if it was ever pinned?

nope, i was gonna link it in one of my pinned topics but i've not had the chance yet. also deciding what to do as it's split over two topics, first half of the cycle and second half of the cycle.

I want to find a thread that's a nice example of a fishless cycle to link as well so people can compare the workload involved in both when they're first starting out.

Yes, it is kind of hard, I agree, to decide if this is a good example of Fish-In Cycling for beginners to follow, because it has good posting up of stats with high frequency (2 good things) and it shows the hard work and persistance needed (2 more good things) but unfortunately its split in 2 big threads (1 bad thing) and worse, its at the very extreme edge of trying to fish-in cycle a huge stocking load (1 really bad thing although sometimes it happens and what are you going to do??) The huge stocking load makes it very un-typical in the length of time needed for the Fish-In Cycle.

The idea of example Fishless and Fish-In threads for MW to link up however, is good I think. Its very interesting to note from a teaching standpoint that we've had several other beginners comment positively on this thread and it must be partly because of the way it illustrates (possibly exaggerates) the long hard process of Fish-In compared to Fishless and partly because it illustrates stat movement via the frequent postings.

Will enjoy your thoughts, MW,

thoughts are a struggle today!!! i agree with you though.

if you can bring to mind a decent thread on fishlessless cycling to use as an example then just let me know (don't want to use yours, although obviously the reporting is excellent, I don't think it was the most standard cycle and is not necessarily a fair representation of what can be expected)

there's obviously a temptation to put up an example of a terrible fish-in cycle with loads of deaths so we can discourage people from doign it and likewise a nice easy straightforward fishless cycle done in a couple of weeks with no pH crashes or anything like that. But I think we have a duty to fair representation so finding a more 'normal' example can be a bit more tricky!

ha, ha, I'll be thinkin, but usually I move to slowly for you.. soon you'll be starting the "second row" of links in your sig (your sig is destined to become the "wiki" for the "New to.." forum, lol)

i'm too lazy to hunt out links whenever i need to give them to people, so just stuck the ones i use the most in there!!

8 pm reading

ammonia 0
nitrites 0.25
nitrates 5

ph 6.8 to 7.0

temp 26 C

all fish good

adding crushed corel tonight

well, 6.2 is the pH stall point for cycling, so its looking reasonable that you won't get down there before the coral kicks in as long as you continue water changes (and you don't know anything about how to do those, right  )
