im currently treating 1 of my tanks for velvet

in the tank is 1 jewel cichlid and 3 synodontis catfish

ive read on a website that adding salt to the water will aid with the breathing

ive also read that u cant add salt to water containing fish with skin instead of scales

what can/cant i do?

Did you read my reply to your velvet question in tropical emergencies??

It is true do not add salt to tanks containing scaleless fish (your synos are scaleless), it will burn them. Instead increase aeration using a air stone and pump and turn any powerheads toward the surface.

yeah i read ur reply...cheers.....was just double checking on the salt situation....dont wanna hurt my beloved fishes

Hi Tek

Do you have a UV unit, as this will help. As well as treating with Malachite Green + Formaldehyde -or- Forma-Green.

hey dolphin

whats a UV unit???

how much are they?

right......can any1 tell me what happens to the fish when they got velvet....like the stages of it....coz their fins seem like they are disintigrating.....and skinn peeling off.....but im not sure if it is skin or mucus or what....really dont wanna lose these fish
