Putting A Tank In The Middle Of A Room?

Just thinking and dreaming really. Our living room is big but does not have many good walls. too many windows a big fireplace and a bar. Not much space for a tank. BUT behind the couch in front of the bar it could divide the room. BUT It would not be against a wall and its on the second level. I would want a 80 -100 gal tank.

Probably not safe? Just day dreaming anyways.

you could and people do have tanks in middle of rooms..
Check first what type of flooring you have as we have a concrete floor and were a second floor flat, also you would have to concider a power point and hiding the cables,ie under a rug or with some type of plastic tubing to encase the cables..

Or route them through under the floorboards if you want to pull some carpet up

I have a tank, not exactly in the middle of the room but turned round so the shorter end is against the wall. I like it as you can see the tank from both sides.

Id say that would weigh 45-50 stone. (80 us gallons)

Would you worry about 3 average size blokes stood together on that spot?

Its not initial weight which is the issue its prolonged weight.

Not sure if its any help but you could put a large board (covered by a rug or something) under the tank to spread the weight..

It also doesn't factor in for when the 3 average size blokes come to look at the tank!

But it's not "that" much weight - always best to consult a structural engineer though - it might be that you need to place it over a joist etc
