Princesscoral's Journal

Angels can eat either Neons or Cardinals, so it won't make much difference either way... The trick is to put the Tetras in first, and then the Angels and they should leave the Tetras alone as they've grown up with them without thinking of them as food :good: Once you add Tetras to a tank with adult Angels, you get trouble, as they are used to you opening the lid and adding food, so when you open the lid and add some nice new Tetras, they think dinner is served and they become an expensive snack, along with any that were in the tank before the new Tetras...

Something I originally overlooked... Angles and Guppies are a no-no. Most Angels will pull the fins off the male Guppies  In some instances it does work, but it's down to the personality of the Angel involved. The only way to find out if they'll pick on the Guppies for definite is to add them and hope for the best. 9 times out of 10 though, it ends badly

Good luck finding the Pterophyllum leopoldi. I have only seen them once, and they were about £50 a specimen...

All the best

Ah, thanks for that - they can be the first fish she buys then :good: how big a group would you suggest?

Well, I usually recommend Neon or Cardinal Tetras go into a 6 month old tank, so your a bit stuck there... They need a minimum group of 4, with 6+ being better

:shifty: I guess we'll just have to wait and let princess look at the stocking suggestions, and if you want add some tetras to the stocking list you choose [if you want to]

Hmm i must be lucky then. Ive got my angel in my four footer with my guppies in there. No fin damage to either fish. Have had the original rescued angel for about 2 months now, with no problems. Originaly they were in a 2 foot tank. Until a night or two ago, they went into the four footer.

However, my angel is not fully grown. Only about 3 or 4 inches top to bottom (without fins).

Good luck :)

has princess coral considered any other new world cichlids that pose no threat to other tank mates such as rams or other apistogramma species

Oh dear, so the tetras are a non starter then - oh gawd

No she hasn't Truck - to be honest the reason she wanted the tank in the first place was the white angels but she just loves the tetras as well

Think she is going to have to do some serious thinking :good:

I really like rams

If you want small shoaling fish that will be ok in a new tank, how about harlequin rasboras?

Cute, we will see what PrincessCoral has to say

What if we bought adult cardinal tetras? Do all tetras have to go in a mature tank?

the main 3 that need mature tanks are neons, cardinals and rummynose tetras.

hengeli rasboras are like harlequins but smaller and a slightly different shape, and then theres also trigonostigma espei which is like hetomorpha but is a goldy colour

pakistan.....lets see......people dont read or research about fishkeeping here all o them just isten to the crap the lfs people tell em i have yet to see a knowledgable lfs here!
but there are aLOT of fish shops with all types of fish here. and the good thing is that if someone is low on money he or she could make a tank with cheap chinese equipment like imagine an eheim wet dry filter for 100 dollars or an aquaclear for 20 dollars.....its that cheap! i mean you could easily make a good 40 gal FOWLR saltwater here for like 300 dollars as such.
so its really hard for me buying stuff like eheim and AC filters and test kiots with my 30 dollar allowance!
i have to save like 3-4 months to buy an aquaclear 110 or something but im not giving up! im gonna buy an aquaclear 110 for my 45 gallon next month and only gonna keep zebra danios in the tank till i can get a marineland biowheel 400...so itll take me till february 2010 but the good thing is that ill have a perfect tank with perfect equipment!

Why not stock gradually and put the tetras in second to last and angels in last?

Which would give the tank time to mature a bit before you add tetras.
