thanks i just wasnt sure as im going to put some of my babie into my main tank it give me some sort of idea how long they will last thanks againI think they can live between 3-5 years
i have a female sword tail in my tank that i have had to seperate from the rest due to her getting very aggresive towards my female platys. it isnt just one female she is bullying its all off them but just the females i only have platys and swordtails in my main tank but it has only been the last few days she has been really bad. i have put her in a two ft tank by herself at the mo just to see if she calms down but her behavior has changed dramaticaly over the last few days.In a main tank, you may not get the survival that you might in a species only tank. Let's face it, some fish are not nearly as friendly as others in your tank. Platies are among the easiest going fish around but, if housed with more aggressive fish, they cannot be their peaceful selves and survive as long.
Mine's a "female dog" too. She's whacked the male several times while her pregnancy neared the end. She also picked on my hoplo when he would accidentally hit her with his tail. At her worst, she killed a fellow tankmate female. -.-i have a female sword tail in my tank that i have had to seperate from the rest due to her getting very aggresive towards my female platys. it isnt just one female she is bullying its all off them but just the females i only have platys and swordtails in my main tank but it has only been the last few days she has been really bad. i have put her in a two ft tank by herself at the mo just to see if she calms down but her behavior has changed dramaticaly over the last few days.In a main tank, you may not get the survival that you might in a species only tank. Now that she has "deflated" after having fry, she seems a bit calmer though. Still just as active through the tank, foraging for food.
I don't know, maybe she's a hothead by nature. Is she fully red?i dont think she is due fry as she is very slender looking but my god has she gone aggresive. two of my platys are due fry any day now but i never seem to get swordtail fryMine's a "female dog" too. Her color.i dont no what you meen fully red?
yeh she is sorry i went a bit numb there for a mo lolHer color.i dont no what you meen fully red?
Mine's a blood-red swordtail with red eyes.
I've also had 2 red males long ago (well, one looked like a female for a while) and then they started fighting.
The black ones seemed to be calmer as I've had black males together in a tank and there were no fights between them.
So it seems the rumor is true, red swordies tend to be more aggressive towards others, regardless of being male or female.yeh she is sorry i went a bit numb there for a mo lolHer color.i dont no what you meen fully red?

But they seem to have a betta-type personality for whatever reason. Mine behaves almost like a betta, looking around at everything including decor and people.
My black male just sits there if he has no female, or if he sees his mate, he only sees her LOL. That and he eats. A lot. Ate a load of fry.
Yeah, my oranges were calm too. So I guess it's only with these red devilsi have neon swordtails that are great with everything but her like i said i cant put her in the main tank cos shes a real hand full.
